Officials confirmed Sunday afternoon that the body discovered in a national forest Sunday was likely Gabby Petito.

Authorities noted in a Sunday afternoon press conference that though the body has yet to be 100% identified, the description matches that of the missing 22-year-old.

The body was discovered at Grand Teton National Park in Moosey, Wyoming, during a massive search for Petito.

Officials noted that the cause of death is unknown at this time.

The FBI has been investigating Gabby’s disappearance since she was reported missing on Sept. 11, when she did not return from a cross-country road trip with her fiancee, Brian Laundrie.

Petito’s family says she has not contacted them since Aug. 30 and vanished at some point while traveling in her white van with Laundrie.

Laundrie refused to cooperate with investigation, and has not spoken to police or the Petito family about her possible whereabouts. He has since disappeared after packing a backpack and leaving for a hike in the Carlton Reserve area on Tuesday. A manhunt for Laundrie is currently underway.

“Saddened and heartbroken to learn that Gabby has been found deceased,” the North Port Police tweeted Sunday. “Our focus from the start, along with the FBI, and national partners, has been to bring her home. We will continue to work with the FBI in the search for more answers.”

      • I think he has been gone longer, and they got him out of country, and gave the authorities a bogus place to throw them off so he can get further away without them putting word out to to any borders or airports. They need to arrest them first, and interrogate the hell out of them.

  2. If that was one of my daughters, the scum would turn himself in before I found him. He would wish he had never been born.
RIP Gabby and deepest condolences to her family.

  3. This is so very sad , especially for her family. As I am a retired homicide investigator, I especially feel bad for the police officer who stopped them and let them go the way he did. I know he is definitely beating himself up over the outcome . My prayers are with Gabby her family and the police officer.

    • Yes, I thought of those police as well. They filed a no contact order and paid for a hotel for the person that was with her to separate them.
I’m not sure what else they could have done. She was the one that would have been arrested if he didn’t file a “ no Contest”?
So sad for a beautiful girl that had her whole life ahead of her.
Prayers for the family and she is resting in Jesus’s arms.
Gabby we didn’t know you until know but we all loved you .

      • It was a judgement call and usually a good one, this time it didn’t work. I just hope he doesn’t carry it long and start second guessing himself the next time.

    • First off, let me say that I am not in law enforcement.
That being said…I watched the entire hour + video. The Officer certainly appeared to have done everything right. However, I’m sure you are correct. This will most likely haunt him, unfortunately, for the rest of his life. Who of us has not thought, at least once, If only I could go back in time. Prayers for the families of all involved in this tragedy.

  4. Just can’t wrap my head around the fact that the fiancé left her out there! If he did nothing wrong why did he drive all the way back to Florida never mentioning Gabby was not with him? How could a grown man not seek help allowing so many days to lapse?? And now he’s on the run?

My sincere condolences to the family…🤍🕊

  5. So sorry to hear this. As awful as it I think most people were pretty sure how it would end. Prayers for her family and friends and I hope they catch the boy friend.

  6. So sad. I had a feeling that she was dead, the fiancés behavior was just a little too suspicious.
May Gabby Rest In Peace. My condolences & prayers going out to her family & friends.
