ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Florida’s governor said he’s suspending all local emergency orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic effective immediately.

During a news conference in St. Peterburg on Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order that suspends all local coronavirus mandates right away, and will also invalidate all remaining local emergency COVID-19 orders effective July 1.

The article goes on to state the following:

One of the biggest impacts of the governor’s emergency order will be on Palm Beach County’s face mask mandate, which was in place until May 18.

The mask mandate had required people to wear facial coverings inside all businesses, government buildings and transit services.

DeSantis declared that local governments have overstepped their authority with the mandates on businesses and keeping children out of schools.

“I think folks who are saying they need to be policing people at this point are really saying you don’t believe in the vaccines, you don’t believe in the science. We’ve embraced the vaccines, we’ve embraced the science,” DeSantis said, noting that the vaccines are available for anyone who wants them.

The governor didn’t stop there, however. He also signed new legislation which forbids local governments from applying mandates to close any business or keep children out of in-person learning during any emergency, with the exception of hurricane emergencies.

The new law also allows the governor to invalidate any local emergency order if it “unnecessarily restricts individual rights or liberties.”

Below is the full press briefing:

Independent journalist Jordan Schachtel tweeted, “Gov. Ron DeSantis is signing an EO today suspending *all* COVID emergency orders. He’s also signing bill to limit localized “emergency orders,” which are a direct violation of individual liberty, and he’s permanently banning COVID-19 vaccine passports. Name a better governor.”

Radio host Buck Sexton responded, “DeSantis showing the GOP leadership that it’s possible for them to stop being a feckless wimp who’s terrified of Fauciite lunatics.”

Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis responded, “Every Governor in America should do the same. NOW.”

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman (D) blasted DeSantis for the announcement, claiming, “This act, this isn’t for the protection of Floridians. This is for politics.”
