The FBI on Friday is closing its investigation into the homicide of Gabby Petito and the subsequent suicide of her fiancé Brian Laundrie, who had been previously named a person of interest in her murder.

“All logical investigative steps have been concluded in this case,” FBI Denver Division Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said in a Friday statement. “The investigation did not identify any other individuals other than Brian Laundrie directly involved in the tragic death of Gabby Petito. The FBI’s primary focus throughout the investigation was to bring justice to Gabby and her family.”

The article goes on to state the following:

Schnieder added that the public’s role in helping the FBI “in this endeavor was invaluable as the investigation was covered in the media around the world.”

According to the FBI, Laundrie’s notebook contained, “written statements by Mr. Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms. Petito’s death.”

Petito/Schmidt family lawyer Rick Stafford said in a statement Friday, “Gabby’s family would like to thank the FBI, specifically the Wyoming, Denver, New York and Tampa offices, all of their task force members and their assisting agencies. Gabby’s family would like to thank the FBI’s Victim Services Department for all they have done for them. Victim Services has been there for support from the earliest stages of this investigation and helped their entire family navigate through the worst moments of their lives.”

He continued, “We truly appreciate the FBI’s diligent and painstaking efforts in this extremely complicated case. The quality and quantity of the facts and information collected by the FBI leave no doubt that Brian Laundrie murdered Gabby.”

Laundrie attorney, Steven Bertolino said this “has caused enormous emotional pain and suffering to all who loved either or both.”

He added, “We can only hope that with today’s closure of the case each family can begin to heal and move forward and find peace in and with the memories of their children. May Gabby and Brian both rest in peace.”

Producer Paige Lobdell tweeted Friday, “#Breaking from FBI Denver: There were several text messages found on Brian Laundrie & Gabby Petito’s phones — indicating that Brian was trying to deceive law enforcement by giving the impression that Gabby was still alive.”

Correspondent Brian Entin wrote, “Statement from Gabby Petito’s family attorney thanks the FBI — and says ‘the quality and quantity of the facts and information collected by the FBI leave no doubt Brian Laundrie murdered Gabby.’ Still waiting on FBI statement.”

Anchor Josh Benson tweeted, “’The investigation did not identify any other individuals other than Brian Laundrie directly involved in the tragic death of Gabby Petito.’ @FBIDenver #GabbyPetito”

  1. A notebook found next to his body? I thought they only had a piece of a jaw? Fishy fishy fishy. No dna analysis, just a dental matchup? that guy is in Mexico no doubt. 2 week head start and he’s gonna hang around a swamp? No way.

    • I completely agree with you, Janet. Brian’s uncle is a dentist, that jaw bone could be from anyone. Until there is DNA, I continue to think he’s alive and living in Mexico. One day, he will be caught.

  2. I’m glad that there are no questions left after the FBI stated that they found a notebook with his confession in it. It’s a very sad story all the way around. They evidently loved each other at one time, what happened to make that change is a mystery. I’m praying for both parents, and as far as charging his parents, I think they’ve been through enough. Let all of them heal from this tragic episode.

  3. I want to know what he wrote! What was the reason he did it? Why didn’t the fbi say there was a confession a long time ago? They had the whole country/world wrapped up in this case and now they just leave us hanging!!!! BS!!!! I wanna know what he said!!! 😡

  4. Too little, too late….
Everything that was found at the swamp seems so packaged and contrived. The timing element of when he left the body to when he made a fast trio and returned home to clean out his storage and then returning. The body finally found which time was critical to discover the method of death…how convenient and then they found, conveniently, the back pack with his diary. Seriously? Of course he’s was the murderer and his parents certainly must have been aware and they concocted some disappearance story. It was an act of cowardice that seems so repugnant. It’s a tragedy that is beyond sad….why did this young girl continue in what appears to be an abusive relationship? She seemed so positive and yet, perhaps unable to control any part of her life but her blog that deceived everyone who followed her and surely, herself that eventually led to her death.
