Officials with the Nashville Police Department held a press briefing Monday afternoon, to give a tragic update on the shooting that occurred at a private Christian school, Covenant School, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said the shooter was a female who appeared to be in her teens. She was armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun.  (Police later confirmed the shooter was a 28-year-old woman.)

Police received the call about the shooting at 10:13 a.m., arrived by 10:15 a.m., and took out the shooter at 10:27 a.m.

Sadly, three students and three staff members at the school were killed by the female shooter before police were able to take out the shooter.

The shooter was also pronounced dead, and police are trying to determine her identity.

Aaron said when police arrived, they cleared the first floor of the building, then heard shots on the second floor.  A five-member team of officers immediately went upstairs and fatally shot the shooter, who had entered the building through a side door.

The school was for elementary students, K-6th grade.

Aaron said there were no other gunfire injuries, but one police officer suffered a hand injury from broken glass.

NEW UPDATE:  The Nashville Police Department later tweeted that the female shooter was a 28-year-old woman, but still has not released her identity.

The police department tweeted:

UPDATE: 3 students & 3 adult staff members from Covenant School were fatally shot by the active shooter, who has now been identified as a 28-year-old Nashville woman.

Two MNPD officers who entered the building and went to the sounds of gunfire engaged the shooter on the second floor and fatally shot her.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper released the following statement on Twitter:

In a tragic morning, Nashville joined the dreaded, long list of communities to experience a school shooting. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. Our entire city stands with you. As facts continue to emerge, I thank our first responders and medical professionals.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams tweeted:

Our hearts break for the young souls lost in Nashville. How many children must we lose before we take real action against gun violence? How many babies won’t come home before we say ENOUGH and stop violent criminals from robbing young lives These tragedies are preventable.

After the police briefing, an unidentified woman jumped in front of the microphones and demanded an end to gun violence.

A local reporter revealed that her mother-in-law works at the front desk of the school, and had just stepped away to take a break when she heard gunshots coming from inside.

    • That’s a good question & it comes down to logistics, money, training, & liability. We started keeping records of children being attacked in schools in the 1700’s!!!! I guess we are SLOW learners or those in charge of schools put security low on the list. You don’t have to break the bank to implement security measures at schools.

  1. Being a teen, how did she obtain the weapons, especially the hand gun. Perhaps parents not securing the guns? It all remains to be seen.

  2. Well, here we go again. They refused to have armed guards to protect our children and now will blame the gun again instead of the mentally ill person.
Sad for all that died. May God Bless their families.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  3. She got in a side door. Parents cant even enter without coming through the front door. How was she not seen carrying these onto the school property?

  4. Another event where a side door was left ajar. If this isn’t a set up I dont know what is. Texas shooter entered through a door left ajar. Wake up people things aren’t what they seem.

  5. Maybe it is a hate crime. If that the case the shooter is in hell. Condemn the evil. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!!!

  6. Another distraction from what is really happening to our County. Pray and We still have a free County when Biden is gone.

  7. So over this BS! With this day and age, one would think these schools would provide more security and make sure all doors are locked! Very sad that these young kids and adults had to perish to negligence and to a psycho who probably had major disturbing mental red flags…that should not have been able to obtain a gun, period!
