Police have named Brian Laundrie, the fiancé of a missing 22-year-old woman named Gabby Petito, a person of interest in their investigation into her disappearance.

Brian Laundrie, 23, has not been charged with a crime, but police in his hometown of North Port, Florida, said they are now considering him a person of interest in a Wednesday tweet.

The article goes on to state the following:

“As of now, Brian has not made himself available to be interviewed by investigators or has provided any helpful details,” police said. “We know Brian returned here to North Port on September 1st — ten days before her family reported her missing on September 11th. We have no information that a crime occurred here in North Port.”

In a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday morning, the North Port Police wrote:

Several detectives are working around the clock to piece this complex and far-reaching situation together. Gabrielle’s vehicle was recovered here in North Port at her home on September 11th – a home shared with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie and his parents. That vehicle was fully processed for evidence along with FBI agents Tuesday evening.”

The statement confirms that Laundrie is now considered a “person of interest” in the case.

The police department said they have set up a national hotline, and have already received “hundreds of tips which are being vetted through multiple agencies.”

The police also stated they are looking into why Gabby’s Instagram page was temporarily taken down. It is now active. She had used it to document their trip, and posted multiple photos as they traveled across the country.

Insider reported that Gabby’s Instagram account was taken down for four hours Wednesday morning, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday. The social media site said it was a mistake and has restored the account.

Laundrie also documented their trip and relationship on his personal Instagram account.

In July 2020, he wrote, “My biggest fear is that one day I’ll wake up and it will have all been a dream, because that is what every second has felt like since the moment we found each other. Till death do us part or until I wake up, I’m so happy the answer was yes, Love you hunny.”

  1. This story is so bizarre. He asked her to marry him. She said yes. And is that what really happened? And now she has disappeared.
I feel so bad for her family.

  2. Two people drive to the middle of nowhere. One person drives home…without telling anyone he drove home alone. Seems shady. Call in Nancy Grace.

  3. I said it from the very beginning they had a big fight and he killed her, being shut up in a vehicle for a long period of time with someone is hard as heck and will stress any couple out and granted it was a large van but it wasn’t that large and everyone needs their own space every once in awhile but the sad thing is they’ll never find her, he probably did it on a hike?
