The Federal Bureau of Investigation has created a “threat tag” to aid in tracking alleged threats against school board officials, teachers and staff, as part of its implementation of a controversial memo issued by Attorney General Merrick Garland last month citing a nationwide increase in harassment of education officials.

An Oct. 20 internal email from the FBI’s criminal and counterterrorism divisions, released Tuesday by House Republicans, instructed agents to apply the threat tag “EDUOFFICIALS” to all investigations and assessments of threats directed specifically at education officials.

The article goes on to state the following:

“The purpose of the threat tag is to help scope this threat on a national level, and provide an opportunity for comprehensive analysis of the threat picture for effective engagement with law enforcement partners at all levels,” the email stated.

The Oct. 20 email refers to Garland’s Oct. 4 memo which he issued in response to the NSBA letter to Biden requesting parents speaking out at school board meetings be labeled as “domestic terrorists.”

The FBI email includes the following:

We share an obligation to ensure all individuals are able to do their jobs without threat of violence or fear for their safety. This can only be accomplished with effective coordination internally between relevant Divisions and through effective coordination and engagement with our law enforcement partners and United States Attorney Offices.

As a result, the Counterterrorism and Criminal Divisions created a threat tag, EDUOFFICIALS, to track instances of related threats. We ask that your office apply the threat tag to investigations and assessments of threats specifically directed against school board administrators, board members, teachers, and staff. The purpose of the treat tag is to help scope this threat on a national level and provide an opportunity for comprehensive analysis of the threat picture for effective engagement with law enforcement partners at all levels. When evaluating potential threats, we ask that you attempt to identify the following:

a) Is there a federal nexus?
b) Are there potential federal violations that can be investigated and charged?
c) What’s the motivation behind the criminal activity?

City Journal writer Chris Rufo provided the following:

BREAKING: House Republicans have obtained whistleblower documents showing that the FBI is using its counterterrorism division to investigate and add “threat tags” to parents—contradicting Attorney General Garland’s sworn testimony. Merrick Garland must resign.

This is the smoking gun. Attorney General Garland provided zero evidence that parents are engaging in credible threats or acts of violence. And yet, he mobilized the FBI Counterterrorism Division to use counterterrorism tools for investigating, tracking, and tagging parents.

This man is a menace to truth, justice, and law. He used the FBI to run interference for the teachers unions and to suppress middle-class American families. The parent movement must not stop until he resigns in disgrace.

God bless the FBI whistleblower who risked his career to make these documents public. We salute you!

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) blasted out the following statement on Twitter, “Merrick Garland testified that the FBI wasn’t targeting parents. We now know the FBI is “tagging” parents they consider threatening. The Attorney General has some explaining to do.”
