Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer has announced that he will step down from the high court effective Thursday at noon.

Breyer, who notified President Biden in January of his intent to retire at the end of the current term, updated the president in a letter Wednesday, after the Supreme Court made it known that it will issue its final opinions of the term Thursday morning.

The article goes on to state the following:

“The Court has announced that tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m., it will hand down all remaining opinions ready during this Term. Accordingly, my retirement from active service under the provisions of 28 U.S.C. § 371(b) will be effective on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at noon,” Breyer wrote.


Breyer wrote, “It has been my great honor to participate as a judge in the effort to maintain our Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

Reporter Steven Mazie tweeted Wednesday, NEW: Justice Breyer has sent a letter to President Biden informing him that his retirement will be effective 24 hours from now: at noon on Thursday, June 30. ‘It has been my great honor to participate as a judge in the effort to maintain our Constitution and the Rule of Law.'”

Podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen tweeted, “NEW: Justice Stephen Breyer will retire in the next 24 hours and Ketanji Brown Jackson will be sworn in as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.”

Producer Craig Caplan tweeted, “Justice Breyer to President Biden on his retirement at Noon tomorrow: ‘You have nominated and the United States Senate has confirmed the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson to succeed me in the office, & I understand she is prepared to take the prescribed oaths to begin her service.'”

  1. The joke that will replace him, Ketanji Brown, who during her Senate Confirmation hearing couldn’t answer the simple question to define a woman, and said she wasn’t a biologist! What a wonderful addition to SCOTUS she will be! Another POS in this sham government!
