A two year-old boy found bloodied and alone during the Highland Park shooting on Monday and lifted from underneath his father is an orphan after both his parents were killed in the attack.
Aiden McCarthy lost his mother Irina McCarthy and father Kevin McCarthy after being separated from them during the chaos of Monday’s shooting.
The article goes on to state the following:
Aiden was unharmed and has been placed in the care of his grandparents.
At least seven people so far are dead from the horrific massacre, when 21-year-old Bobby Crimo opened fire on the parade crowd from atop a downtown building. About 30 others were wounded, some critically.
Aiden’s parents, Irina McCarthy, 35, and Kevin McCarthy, 37, were both killed in the massacre.
Little Aiden was found by Lauren Silva, 38, of Deerfield, and her boyfriend, who were just entering a restaurant along the parade route when they heard the shooting.
Aiden was found underneath his father, who was shot in the leg. Others were trying to stop the father’s bleeding, so they took the child into a parking garage.
“He kept asking if mom and dad are going to come back soon,” Silva said in an interview with the Daily Beast. The report explains that Aiden was too young to know the names of his parents.
Another family later took the child to the hospital, and he was finally reunited with his grandparents.
A Highland Park detective, reunited the child with “grandparents” , at the hospital.
