Republican Susan Wright on Saturday advanced to a runoff in the race to represent Texas’s 6th Congressional District, while other candidates continued to vie for the second spot.

Wright was seen as the frontrunner in the race, scoring a coveted endorsement from former President Trump.

The article goes on to state the following:

“Susan Wright will be a terrific Congresswoman (TX-06) for the Great State of Texas. She is the wife of the late Congressman Ron Wright, who has always been supportive of our America First Policies,” Trump said in a statement earlier this week.

Rep. Ron Wright won his re-election campaign in November for his second term in Congress, but died in February after contracting COVID-19. He was also battling cancer.

Almost two dozen candidates were in the running for the coveted congressional seat, and since none of them receive over 50% of the vote, a runoff will be held between the top two.

Susan Wright gained 19.2% of the vote.

As of Saturday night, another Republican, retired U.S. Navy fighter pilot Jake Ellzey, was in the second spot with 13.9% of the vote, and Democrat Jana Sanchez was behind him by only 354 votes.

Former President Donald Trump had endorsed Wright in the race to replace her late husband, and his longtime aide, Dan Scavino, congratulated her with a Trump “thumbs-up” GIF Saturday night.

“I’m truly honored to be endorsed by President Trump, and I’m so proud to be the only candidate in this race President Trump trusts to be his ally in our fight to Make America Great Again,” Wright tweeted on Thursday.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) sent her congratulations, tweeting “Huge congratulations to @SusanWrightTX6 on her victory tonight. #EPAC and #TeamElise were proud to donate and raise over $50,000 dollars to her campaign via @WINRED. Now on to the RUNOFF!”

Ellzey had spoke out in Wright’s defense on Friday, after a vile and false attack was launched against her, as people started receiving robocalls which accused her of being responsible for her late husband’s death.

“This malicious, false attack on Susan is one of the most vile, cowardly acts I’ve ever witnessed in politics. Whoever did it must be punished to the fullest extent of the law. This is totally and absolutely unacceptable,” Ellzey tweeted.

  1. So glad about the results and Dems must be scared now and I’m glad. I think more of this will happen. Biden’s and the Dems immigration policies along with everything else will make it happen especially immigration. It hurts the boarder states the most. Their tax hikes on big businesses could drive many of them that just relocated to Texas to leave.
