Former President Donald Trump has responded after bombshell testimony by Hillary Clinton’s former campaign manager on Friday revealed that she approved the handover of now-debunked claims against Trump to a reporter in 2016.
Former Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook was called to testify in the trial for Clinton lawyer Michael Sussmann, who has been charged with lying to the FBI in 2016.
Sussmann had brought information to the FBI which alleged that there was a secret communications channel between the Trump Organization and Russia’s Alfa Bank. Sussmann claimed he was coming on his own, and not representing any client, but the FBI later learned he had charged the Clinton campaign for the meeting.
The FBI said they checked out the information Sussmann provided and concluded it was not legitimate. However, the Clinton campaign then handed over the same material to the media, who blasted it out as factual.
Mook testified on Friday that Clinton’s campaign was not totally confident in the legitimacy of the data, so they decided to hand it over to a reporter who could further “run it down” to determine if it was “accurate” or “substantive.”
He said he discussed the matter with multiple campaign officials, including campaign chairman John Podesta, senior policy advisor, now White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, and communications director Jennifer Palmieri.
“I discussed it with Hillary as well,” Mook admitted, confirming Clinton approved the plan to hand the now-debunked information to a reporter.
On his Truth Social account, Trump wrote on Friday afternoon, “Robby Mook just admitted that the Campaign Fraud was committed by Hillary Clinton together with her same cast of characters. It’s the biggest story on the internet, but the Fake News refuses to report it! They have lost all credibility with the People. We can’t have a great Country without a free and respected Media!”
After the false claims hit the news prior to the 2016 presidential election, Sullivan released a statement backing it up, and Hillary Clinton posted the statement on her Twitter account on Oct. 31, 2016, claiming, “Computer scientists have apparently uncovered a covert server linking the Trump Organization to a Russian-based bank.”
