Former President Donald Trump returned to Facebook on Friday, posting for the first time in more than two years with a simple two-word message: “I’M BACK!”
Included in the post was a 12-second video clip from Trump’s 2016 election night victory speech. “Sorry to keep you waiting. Complicated business,” he said in the clip.
Trump was banned from the platform, as well as his Instagram and Twitter accounts, following the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021; however, Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook and Instagram, announced earlier this year his access to the accounts would be reinstated.
An official with Meta said they have determined that Trump is no longer a “serious risk to public safety” and they have “guardrails” in place to make sure he doesn’t spread “misinformation.”
Prior to his new post on Friday evening, the last post on Trump’s Facebook account was a message from January 6, 2021, in which he had written, “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”
Trump has 34 million followers on Facebook, and his new post already has 25,000 comments and 19,000 shares.
Below is Trump’s new post to mark his return to the platform.
The MAGA War Room Twitter account also celebrated Trump’s return to Facebook by reposting it on Twitter, and announcing, “ President @realDonaldTrump has returned to Facebook!”
