TWO alarming incidents occurred Monday morning targeting school buses in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

The first incident was in northeast Atlanta, in the Suwanee neighborhood, when a woman shot at a school bus taking elementary students to school.

The second incident was on Atlanta’s west side, in the Collier Heights neighborhood, as a man armed with two guns and a knife fired toward students waiting at a school bus stop.

11ALIVE.COM reports: Gwinnett school bus shot up with multiple students on board, woman in custody, police say

SUWANEE, Ga. — A school bus was shot multiple times as it was driving through a Suwanee neighborhood Monday morning, police said.

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, it happened in a subdivision near Highland Gate Circle and Highland Gate Drive not far from Settles Bridge Park around 7:15 a.m. The bus was taking students to Riverside Elementary School.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries from glass, however, police said no one was shot in the incident. They said there were multiple Gwinnett County Public Schools students on board at the time of the shooting.

Amid the shooting, the driver reportedly kept driving the bus to get away from the scene, and multiple people called 911 to report the shooting.

A woman was taken into custody by police.

WSB-TV reporter Steve Gehlbach shared a photo showing two bullet holes in the windshield of the bus.

The Gwinnett County Police said in a Twitter post, “Active Investigation: Around 7:30 this morning our officers responded to a report that someone had shot at a school bus in the area of Johnson Road and Highland Gate Drive. No injuries were reported. This is still an active scene.”

In the second incident, CBS46.com reported: Officer shoots man who had just fired shots toward children in Atlanta’s west side

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) – A man who police say was armed with two guns and a knife is hospitalized after witnesses say he fired gunshots toward a bus stop where children were gathered early Monday morning, prompting an Atlanta police officer to shoot him.

It happened Monday morning on Skipper Road in Atlanta’s Collier Heights neighborhood. 

A woman who was in the area and saw a man with a gun headed toward the bus stop. She said she honked her horn to get the attention of an officer driving in the area, and she yelled for the children to run.

The incident reportedly started because of a domestic dispute at an apartment complex.

CBS46 reporter Rebekka Schramm tweeted, “#Breaking: ⁦@Atlanta_Police on scene of an officer-involved shooting on Skipper Drive on the west side of Atlanta.”

Schramm later added, “Update: Atlanta police tell us an officer shot a man who had just fired shots toward a school bus stop where about 10 children were gathered. The wounded man was cuffed and taken to the hospital. The kids were not hurt.”

WSB-TV reporter Kristen Holloway tweeted, “BREAKING: Atlanta Police shot a man who fired shots at a group of children waiting on a school bus. None of the children were injured. The suspect is stable. Police say this started with a domestic dispute inside an apt complex in NW ATL.”
