1-US to resume J&J COVID vaccinations despite rare clot risk
Associated Press — U.S. health officials lifted an 11-day pause on COVID-19 vaccinations using Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose shot on Friday, after scientific advisers decided its benefits outweigh a rare risk of blood clot.
The government uncovered 15 vaccine recipients who developed a highly unusual kind of blood clot out of nearly 8 million people given the J&J shot. All were women, most under age 50. Three died, and seven remain hospitalized.
But ultimately, federal health officials decided that J&J’s one-and-done vaccine is critical to fight the pandemic — and that the small clot risk could be handled with warnings to help younger women decide if they should use that shot or an alternative.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the J&J vaccine has important advantages for some people who were anxiously awaiting its return. And the Food and Drug Administration updated online vaccine information leaflets for would-be recipients and health workers, so that shots could resume as early as Saturday.

DML: So, in my opinion, it’s a rare clotting versus a rare death, because lets remember the death rate is tiny. I’ll stick with my immune system, but that’s me. I wonder how many people steer clear from this vaccine out of fear. Even better, I wonder how many lawsuits will be filed against J&J, CDC and FDA if the “rare” blood clot” kills additional people. Below are a few tweets from random people; the reactions are interesting.
LMAO johnson and johnson lifted their vaccine distribution halt bc they decided “oh its giving bloodclots? just put that in the side effects chart so they cant act like we didnt tell them” AKSKAKDKAKDKAKDKA

Just wanted to check – what about women who are TTC and on fertility meds/hormones etc. Will the vaccine interfere with the chances of getting pregnant or if you’re already pregnant? Also in such a case which vaccine will be the best ? Johnson and Johnson? Thanks in advance.

Kamala at the VP Debate said if told by President Trump ro get the vaccine, she wouldn’t, but we’re supposed to trust her and Biden?
Who rushed emergency approval and took credit for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and is telling people to get it? Biden?https://t.co/TJvCHBWtkT

2-Portland police declare riot Friday night after mayor’s state-of-emergency extension
Police in Portland, Oregon, declared a riot in the northwest part of the city late Friday night after rioters began smashing windows, tagging graffiti on buildings and broke into a restaurant.
A resident who was filming the mayhem had a rock thrown through his window by a rioter, police said.
The unrest came after Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler extended the state of emergency in the city through the weekend over possible continued unrest, according to FOX 12 of Oregon.
The Portland Police Bureau said the planned protest that had been billed as an “autonomous demonstration.” It started around 9 p.m. PT with around 75 protesters dressed all in black who started vandalizing property around 15 minutes after they began marching from a park near the city’s downtown.

3-Indonesian submarine declared sunk, no hope of survivors
Fox News — Indonesia‘s navy declared Saturday that the missing submarine has most likely sunk, with no hope of finding survivors, after rescuers discovered several items believed to be from the vessel.
“With authentic evidence we found believe to be from the submarine, we have now moved from the ‘sub miss’ phase to ‘sub sunk,'” Margono said at a press conference in Bali, where the found items were displayed.
The items included parts of a torpedo straightener, a grease bottle believed to be used to oil the periscope and prayer rugs from the submarine. Officials said the oxygen supply for its 53 crew ran out early Saturday.

DML: God rest their souls. With that said, this question may sound insensitive, but lets flip the script for a moment. Question: Lets pretend this happened in the US. If the American sailors were found and the autopsies showed a few of the men tested positive for COVID, would they be marked as a COVID death versus a drowning? This is a serious question.
4- Five people injured in shooting on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, police say
CNN — Five people were injured early Saturday in a shooting on New Orleans’ famous Bourbon Street, and no arrests had been made as of a few hours after the incident, police said.
The shooting was reported to police at 1:16 a.m. CT on the street popular with tourists near an address on the edge of the French Quarter, not far from Canal Street, authorities said.
All five injured people are believed to have been shot, and the injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening, police spokesman Aaron Looney said.

5-Biden Stops Fining Illegal Aliens Who Do Not Depart U.S., Cancels Their Debt
DHS – Today, at the direction of Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rescinded two delegation orders related to the collection of civil financial penalties for noncitizens who fail to depart the U.S., stating they run counter to the agency’s best interest.
“There is no indication that these penalties promoted compliance with noncitizens’ departure obligations,” said Secretary Mayorkas. “We can enforce our immigration laws without resorting to ineffective and unnecessary punitive measures.”
After reviewing detailed data regarding the issuance of such fines since 2018, it was clear to Secretary Mayorkas and Acting ICE Director Tae Johnson that the fines were not effective and had not meaningfully advanced the interests of the agency. ICE intends to work with the Department of Treasury to cancel the existing debts of those who had been fined.
The two delegation orders—ICE Delegation No. 01-2018, Delegation of Authority to Administer and Enforce Provisions Relating to Civil Penalties for Failure to Depart, and ICE Delegation No. 006-2020, Delegation of Authority to Administer Certain Provisions Relating to Civil Penalties for Failure to Depart—delegated to certain ICE officials the authority to administer and enforce certain civil penalties for noncitizens who fail to depart.
Although ICE has had the authority to assess financial penalties to individuals for failing to depart for more than 20 years, the agency did not initiate enforcement of these penalties until 2018. As of January 20, 2021, ICE ceased issuing these fines. This formalizes the Biden Administration’s change in direction.
DML: In other news, US citizens must pay taxes on time or be subject to fines and interest. Failure to pay comes with risk of jail time.
