1.California declares a state of emergency over monkeypox outbreak, following New York and Illinois
CNBC – California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency over the rapidly spreading monkeypox outbreak on Monday, the third U.S. state to do so in a matter of days.
Newsom said the emergency declaration would help support the state’s vaccination efforts. Demand for the vaccines has outstripped supply as infections rise. Staff at sexual health clinics and other sites have struggled to keep up with the influx of people seeking the shots.
California’s declaration comes after Illinois declared a public health emergency earlier Monday. New York declared a state disaster emergency in response to the outbreak late Friday.
The U.S. has reported nearly 6,000 cases of monkeypox across across 48 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
California, Illinois and New York – home to the nation’s three largest cities – have reported 47% of all confirmed monkeypox infections in the U.S. New York is the epicenter of the outbreak in the U.S., with nearly 1,400 confirmed cases as of Monday.
DML: The drama king in California calls a state of emergency. Hysterical. He’s got homeless people everywhere, illegal aliens taking jobs in local governments, and cartels vacationing in plain site, but a few guys get bumps on their hands after having sex with other guys and presto, the alarms go off. Liberals. I can’t understand them.
2.Zawahri’s Kabul death raises questions about al Qaeda presence in Afghanistan after US left it to the Taliban
Fox News – Al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahri’s death in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan is raising questions about whether the country is being used as a base of operations for the terrorist group.
“What unnerves me is that Al Zawahri felt comfortable enough being out in the open in the Kabul area after the Taliban takeover,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. “So much for the Taliban rejecting al-Qaeda. This is proof positive that Afghanistan has once again become a safe haven for international terrorists.”
National security experts say Zawahri’s presence within the country signals a troubling relationship between al Qaeda and the Taliban. The two organizations have long co-existed alongside one another, sharing similar tactics and ideologies.
DML: This is the United States of Joe Biden. I will be talking about this extensively today on The Dennis Michael Lynch Podcast. Whereas yesterday’s podcast was titled, “When the President does a deal with the devil,” today’s episode will be, “When the President kills a devil he created.”
3.Chinese warplanes buzz line dividing Taiwan Strait before expected Pelosi visit
(Reuters) – U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi was expected to arrive in Taipei later on Tuesday, people briefed on the matter said, as several Chinese warplanes flew close to the median line dividing the Taiwan Strait, a source told Reuters.
China has repeatedly warned against Pelosi going to Taiwan, which it claims as its own, while the United States said on Monday that it would not be intimidated by Chinese “sabre rattling”.
DML: If you follow me on Facebook, then you may have seen my recent post listing the 7 reasons why Nancy would go to Taiwan. If you missed it, I will repeat them today on The Dennis Michael Lynch Podcast.
4.First Capitol Rioter to Face Trial Gets 7 Years, Longest Sentence So Far
NY TIMES – A federal judge on Monday sentenced Guy Wesley Reffitt, the first defendant to go on trial in the Justice Department’s sprawling criminal inquiry into the Jan. 6 attack, to more than seven years in prison, the longest sentence to date in a case stemming from the Capitol riot.
After a six-hour hearing, Judge Dabney L. Friedrich handed down a sentence at the low end of the guideline range. She noted that was still significantly longer than any given so far to any of the more than 800 people arrested in connection with the riot, many of whom have struck plea bargains.
Prosecutors had asked that Mr. Reffitt be given 15 years after adding a sentencing enhancement used in cases of domestic terrorism. But Judge Friedrich rejected those terms, sentencing him to seven years and three months in prison with three years of probation, and ordering him to pay $2,000 in restitution and receive mental health treatment.
A jury found Mr. Reffitt guilty on five felony charges in March, including obstructing Congress’s certification of the 2020 presidential election, carrying a .40-caliber pistol during the riot and two counts of civil disorder. Unlike others who breached the building, Mr. Reffitt did not go inside.
DML: I always shake my head at the fools who went to that rally and then acted like crazy idiots going into the Capital, but 7 years? First of all, the second amendment allows him to bear arms. You have any idea how many criminals in DC are walking around with guns, they don’t get 7 years. The justice system no longer deals justice, it deals the ideology of a judge in a black cape.
5.The anti-Trump Republicans on the chopping block: Three GOP Reps who voted to impeach ex-president try and cling onto their seats in crucial primary races in Arizona, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan and Washington
Daily Mail – Three House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump could see the end of their political careers on Tuesday evening, as Republican primary voters in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington head to the polls.
Reps. Jaime Herrera Beutler and Dan Newhouse of Washington and Peter Meijer of Michigan are all facing tough challenges from Trump-backed primary opponents.
They’re just three of the high-profile races that will test the former president’s endorsement strength ahead of the November midterm elections.
DML: The DML NEWS APP will share the results tonight as the races are called.
