Today is September 16 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion. 1.Durham’s Russia ‘origins’ probe: Request for grand jury indictment may be hours away
Special Counsel John Durham, the federal prosecutor tapped during the Trump administration to investigate the origins of the Russia investigation, could be days – if not hours – from taking his case to a grand jury against a cybersecurity attorney for allegedly providing a false statement to the FBI, Fox News has learned.
Durham is zeroing in on a Sept. 19, 2016, conversation between the lawyer, Michael Sussmann, and an FBI employee, a source said. The statute of limitations expires this weekend and questions remain on whether he will have funding to continue his investigation past the end of the government’s fiscal year on Sept. 30.
Durham has yet to submit an official report to the Justice Department, but portions are expected to include unfavorable information about the FBI, two sources told Fox News. Durham has cast his net wide and is apparently looking at individuals outside of government, they said.
Durham’s review has led to one prosecution thus far and has stretched longer than the two-year tenure of special counsel Robert Mueller, the Wall Street Journal pointed out last month.
DML: My money is on this ending…. Nothing happens! Because nothing ever happens. The bad actors get away with everything.
2.Feds Arrest Professor Who Smuggled Advanced Medical Equipment to Iran
Free Beacon – Federal authorities this week arrested and charged a University of Miami professor who allegedly procured medical research equipment with laundered money and smuggled it into Iran.
Dr. Mohammad Faghihi, an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Miami in Florida, was charged Tuesday in a Miami federal court with conspiracy to commit money laundering, unlawful export to Iran, and making false statements. Exporting scientific research devices to Iran without permission of the Treasury Department violates U.S. sanctions on Iran.
Faghihi was born and educated in Iran. He entered the United States lawfully in 2005 and was affiliated with the university from 2013 to 2020. The university did not respond to the Washington Free Beacon’s request for comment by press time.
DML: Why did we need someone from Iran in 2005? The answer is: We didn’t. End all immigration into the US from the Middle East, China, and Latin America for 5 years and watch this country get back on its feet. I should be president, damn it!
3.Thousands of Afghans on American Military Bases Await Resettlement
According to the New York Times, many Afghans who left the country in August are waiting for medical and security screenings and flights that were halted by a measles outbreak.
As of Sept. 14, about 64,000 evacuees from Afghanistan had arrived in the United States. The vast majority were at risk under Taliban rule after the U.S. withdrawal from the country last month. Nearly 49,000 are living on eight domestic military bases, waiting to be resettled in the United States, according to an internal federal document obtained by The New York Times. Roughly 18,000 are on bases overseas, largely in Germany. Some leave within weeks, but most stay longer.
The screenings, which involve an array of federal agencies, follow a condensed and harried evacuation effort last month shortly before the United States completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan. About 100 Americans who want to leave, and an unknown number of vulnerable Afghans, remain in the country.
DML: Biden is the lowest of the low, so low that he’d play handball against the curb if he still had the ability to move.
4.France says it has been ‘stabbed in the back’ by US-UK defense pact to take on China by building Australia’s nuclear-powered submarines
Joe Biden has found himself at the epicenter of another international outcry after the President announced a new pact between the US, UK and Australia to build a fleet of nuclear submarines to combat China.
The new alliance – called AUKUS – will see the US and UK cooperate to build Australia’s first ever nuclear submarine fleet of at least eight vessels.
It has been condemned by China as an example of ‘Cold War mentality’ and left France fuming after the new deal saw a pre-existing $90billion contract for France to build Australia’s subs torn up.
Biden’s declaration of the three-way deal was confirmation of a new allied nuclear and technological arms race against China, which has been increasing its military presence in the South China sea where valuable trading routes and fertile fishing grounds are located.
Paris was also quick to react as enraged diplomats declared they had been ‘stabbed in the back’ by Biden and Johnson, as a $90bn deal for France to supply Australia’s new submarines was overlooked in favour of the US-UK offer.
The French vessels were due some time in the mid-2030s, while Biden’s new pact is thought to move that date significantly closer.
DML: Seriously? At this point a few boats ain’t stopping China. They are embedded into every aspect of our society. Academia, media, real estate, business, and we owe them more many than we can ever pay back. I was to do a podcast about this today, but it is pushed back until Friday. The podcast I have to play today will blow your mind. It’s of a doctor who is screaming at Joe Biden over his vaccine mandates. And yet, the doctor voted for him. The doctor is a Republican, and I take him to the mat. DO NOT miss this podcast. You can listen on the DML NEWS APP. As for the French being pissed off… it’s better to be pissed off than pissed on. So they should stop pissing on their citizens with the stupid vaccine mandates.
5.Gabby Petito missing: Utah police release bodycam footage showing interaction with her, Brian Laundrie
MOAB, Utah (WABC) — The Moab City Police Department in Utah released body camera footage of their interaction with Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie from back on August 12.
The body camera captures officers responding to a 911 call reporting a domestic incident between Petito and Laundrie.
Officers located the white van and pulled it over. The more than hour-long video shows police immediately separating Petito and Laundrie before each describes the incident that led to the 911 call.
Petito is emotional as she described the incident.
DML: How many people think the boyfriend killed her?
6.Rising Shipping Costs Are Companies’ Latest Inflation Riddle
WSJ – Transportation costs—typically a fraction of a finished product’s price—are emerging as another supply-chain hurdle, overwhelming some companies already paying more for raw materials and labor.
The fabric and crafts retailer Jo-Ann Stores LLC said it has spent 10 times more than its historical cost in some cases to move products from one point to another.
The Covid-19 pandemic has driven a long-lasting surge in transportation costs, putting pressure on many businesses already confronting higher wages and raw-material prices. Some CEOs are saying they expect elevated freight costs stretching into 2023.
The cost of transporting goods is a component in every step in a company’s supply chain. Everything from iron ore, steel, parts and finished products has to move as raw materials are processed in global manufacturing. The cost of shipping containers across the ocean is higher, truck drivers are in short supply, and gasoline is more expensive than many expected earlier this year.
