Today is July 13 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion. 1 – Texas’ Abbott says Dems who ‘fled’ state over elections bill will be arrested upon return
Fox News reports: Gov. Greg Abbott, the Texas Republican, criticized state Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C., on Monday in an effort to deprive the Legislature of a quorum, thus the ability to vote on the GOP’s sweeping elections overhaul bill.
Abbott appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” on Monday to defend the bill and say the missing lawmakers will be arrested upon their return to the state. He said members of the Texas House of Representatives who are still in the state can call for the arrests of their colleagues who do not show up to vote. The one caveat is the arrest has to be made in the state.
“Once they step back into the state they will be arrested and brought back to the Capitol and we will be conducting business,” he said.
The exodus was the second time that Democratic lawmakers have staged a walkout on the voting overhaul, a measure of their fierce opposition to proposals they say will make it harder for young people, people of color and people with disabilities to vote.
When it comes to protecting our right to vote, all cards are on the table. We broke #quorum again today because the Gov & #txlege Repubs chose to bully Texans out of our constitutional rights instead of finding solutions to problems that really exist. #SuppressionSession #DemsOut https://t.co/muMdHLSy9F pic.twitter.com/9UbJnB8ehW

The Texas Democrats claimed they “packed their biggest suitcase” to stay out of the state as long as they need to to keep from voting on the election integrity bill.

Abbott blasted the Texas Democrats for “flying across the country on cushy private planes” to avoid showing up for work. Watch:
Democrats must get back to the job they were elected to do.
Their constituents must not be denied important resources simply because their elected representatives refused to show up to work. pic.twitter.com/dGC9DceRaZ

2 – Oklahoma education board BANS Critical Race Theory from schools and threatens to revoke licenses of teachers who promote it
The Daily Mail reports: Public school teachers in Oklahoma could have their teaching licenses suspended for teaching certain concepts about race and racism under new rules approved Monday by the State Board of Education.
With just one opposing vote, the board approved emergency rules to comply with a bill approved by the Republican-led legislature this year that purports to ban so-called ‘Critical Race Theory.’
The new law prohibits public school teachers of grades K-12 from teaching eight different concepts about race, including that an individual, by virtue of his or race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously.
It also prohibits teaching that any individual should feel discomfort or guilt on account of his or her race or sex.

3 – The DNC Wants Phone Companies To Police Text Messages For Vaccine Misinformation
The Daily Caller reports: The Democratic National Committee reportedly wants Short Message Service (SMS) carriers to step in and police private text messages as part of a new push against COVID-19 vaccine misinformation.
Allies of President Joe Biden, including the DNC, plan to “engage fact-checkers more aggressively” and work alongside phone companies to combat misinformation about vaccines shared via social media and private SMS messages, according to a Monday report from Politico.
White House officials are particularly frustrated with the characterization by some Republicans of their door-to-door pro-vaccination campaign, according to the report.
“Biden allied groups, including the Democratic National Committee, are also planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages.”

4 – Florida county mayor asks residents to wear masks regardless of vaccination
The Hill reports: The mayor of Orange County, Fla. is asking residents to again wear face masks indoors as the county faces climbing COVID-19 positivity rates.
“I am announcing today that it is my official recommendation that Orange County return to the status in which it is recommended that all residents vaccinated and unvaccinated consider wearing facial coverings indoors when in crowded environments,” Mayor Jerry Demings said in an announcement reported by a local NPR affiliate station.

5 – Howard Dean goes off the rails: ‘Trump Is Jim Jones’ — His Followers ‘Are Going to Pay’ with Their Lives
Breitbart reports: Former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean (D-VT) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that former President Donald Trump is like Jim Jones, the cult leader.
Guest-host Jason Johnson said, “How concerned are you when you see every political party in this country devoted to committing ignorance that combatting lifesaving methods in this country?”
Dean said, “It’s pretty frightening, really. The CPAC people have gotten more and more sort of off the charts, and Trump has always been a little nuts. The thing that is so ironic about this is the people who they are killing in Missouri, for example, are actually Trump voters. Because the Trump voters have a much higher percentage of people, who are not vaccinated exactly because of this garbage the former president is putting out. They are not being vaxxed. In southern Missouri, which is a conservative part of the state and a conservative part of the country, you have the death rate going up hugely. The highest increase in death rates have been in places like Mississippi and Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri that is where people believe this. This has become a cult. There is rationality behind this. It is a cult based on anger, fear and ignorance.”
In another MSNBC interview Monday night, Dean called the CPAC attendees “crackpots.” WATCH:
“They have nothing to say and when you have nothing to say that’s good for the country, you resort to the worst possible tactics,” Howard Dean says of the GOP, adding, “the biggest problem in the Republican Party…is the decent people in the middle who won’t stand up.” pic.twitter.com/plwapB5sDB
