1 – ‘Agitated’ Biden goes viral after meeting Senate Democrats
The Washington Examiner reports: President Joe Biden went viral after he offered a grim diagnosis of efforts to sway enough Democrats to change the filibuster to pass voting reform legislation after a meeting with senators Thursday on Capitol Hill.
A clip of his remarks shared on Twitter by CNN reporter Kaitlin Collins, who described Biden as being “agitated,” has been seen more than 160,000 times and was retweeted by White House chief of staff Ron Klain. The video showed Biden raising his voice at times, saying he will fight “as long as I have a breath in me” as he reiterated the argument made by Democrats that changing the long-standing filibuster is justified because their election overhaul legislation is needed to combat red-state voter integrity laws they believe will limit voter access.
The video also appeared to show Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat opposed to altering the filibuster, walking into the room before quickly reversing course. Some users surmised Sinema was turning tail, considering the optics. Her vote, along with that of fellow holdout Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, is needed for Democrats to pass the election legislation over the unanimous objection of Republicans.

2 – Psaki mocks: Why is GOP afraid of presidential debates?
The Hill reports: White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday suggested the Republican National Committee (RNC) was afraid of participating in presidential debates after the group issued a letter discouraging any of its presidential candidates from taking part in the events staged by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
The RNC alerted the commission that it plans to require GOP presidential nominees not to attend debates run by the commission going forward. The letter was a nod to growing complaints from former President Trump and his allies, who in 2016 and 2020 claimed debate moderators were biased against him.
“The president has participated in many debates over the course of his career and believes they play a role in allowing the American people to hear from candidates and where they stand,” Psaki told reporters when asked for President Biden’s response.
“So, I think it’s a question best posed to the RNC on what they’re so afraid of,” she added.

3 – State refused help from unvaxxed workers to clear snow after ‘freak storm’
Fox News reports: The Washington State Department of Transportation denied help from one county to clean up a “freak winter storm” because it does not mandate employee vaccinations.
“Washington State informed Kittitas County they could not accept this assistance due to Kittitas County not mandating the COVID-19 vaccination for County employees. The Kittitas County Board of Commissioners is extremely disappointed with the States’ position to refuse assistance,” a press release from Kittitas County on Wednesday states.
The county received significant snowfall over Jan. 5 and 6, which was described as a “freak winter storm” by local outlet KHQ. The storm forced the Snoqualmie Pass to close for over 90 hours and some supply chain issues were subsequently reported, according to the outlet.
The county offered assistance to the Washington State Department of Transportation to clean up state roads on Jan. 11 but was subsequently denied over lack of vaccine mandate.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT… Here’s a press release just published Monday, Jan. 10 on the NIH website:
As a complement to vaccines, small-molecule therapeutic agents are needed to treat or prevent infections by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its variants, which cause COVID-19. Affinity selection-mass spectrometry was used for the discovery of botanical ligands to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Cannabinoid acids from hemp (Cannabis sativa) were found to be allosteric as well as orthosteric ligands with micromolar affinity for the spike protein.
In follow-up virus neutralization assays, cannabigerolic acid and cannabidiolic acid prevented infection of human epithelial cells by a pseudovirus expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and prevented entry of live SARS-CoV-2 into cells. Importantly, cannabigerolic acid and cannabidiolic acid were equally effective against the SARS-CoV-2 alpha variant B.1.1.7 and the beta variant B.1.351. Orally bioavailable and with a long history of safe human use, these cannabinoids, isolated or in hemp extracts, have the potential to prevent as well as treat infection by SARS-CoV-2.
