1 – Buttigieg visits East Palestine, Ohio, as probe of train derailment continues
CBS News reports: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is in East Palestine, Ohio, on Thursday, as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is expected to release the initial results of its investigation into the derailment of a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous substances.

The 38-car train that crashed Feb. 3 has sparked serious health and environmental concerns for the area’s residents, who have expressed frustration over the slowness of the federal government’s response to the crisis.

Buttigieg arrived at the site of the derailment just before 8 a.m. local time Thursday. He is expected to meet with local residents and receive an update on the NTSB’s investigation.

“This morning I’m in East Palestine, Ohio, to see the site of the Norfolk Southern derailment, hear updates from investigators, and meet first responders. USDOT will continue its work to ensure safety and accountability,” Buttigieg said in a tweet, which included a video of him and others at the site receiving information about the derailment.

ANNETA G: Hey Petey, why did you DELETE this tweet?  Were the comments getting too hot, or what happened?

2 – Jill Biden meets with president of Namibia as she begins Africa trip
The Hill reports: First lady Jill Biden met with Namibian President Hage Geingob on Wednesday to kick off her five-day, two-country visit to Africa.

“We wanted to come because this is a young democracy and we want to support democracies around the world,” Biden said ahead of the meeting.

Biden visited with Geingob and Namibian first lady Monica Geingos at the State House and after a photograph together, the three had a closed-door meeting.

Geingob asked Biden how her husband was ahead of the meeting and she replied, “He’s great. I will tell him you were asking for him.”

Her focus in Namibia is on the “role of young people in continuing to shape their democracy and advance health cooperation,” senior administration officials said on Tuesday. The last time a senior White House official visited Namibia was former Vice President Al Gore in 1996.

ANNETA G: Maybe it’s just me, but it sure feels like the Bidens and the entire Biden administration care more about everyone else than they do American citizens.  81 million people voted for this?

3 – Trump grand jury foreperson’s bizarre media tour stuns liberal media and legal experts
Fox News reports: The strange antics of the forewoman of a special grand jury in the media this week have surprised legal experts and annoyed liberal media pundits, who warned she could compromise a potential prosecution of President Trump and his associates.

Emily Kohrs, foreperson of the special Fulton County, Georgia, grand jury empaneled to investigate allegations of election meddling in 2020, seemed eager to share details of the lengthy probe in interviews with CNN, NBC News, The New York Times, The Associated Press and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week.

Clips circulating online of the 30-year-old woman smirking and bursting into giggles while teasing the grand jury’s recommended indictments – which have not yet been made public – raised concerns from even liberal media figures that she could be “destroying” the prosecution’s case.

In all her appearances, she appeared to strongly hint that Trump was among those recommended for criminal charges – the grand jury she was on did not have indictment powers. On television, her grins and coy behavior were odd enough that even left-wing MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell, after playing clips of her NBC interview, felt compelled to say she was not a seasoned media professional.

“I thought it would be really cool to get sixty seconds with President Trump of me looking at him, and being like, ‘Do you solemnly swear—’ and me getting to swear him in. I just thought that would be an awesome moment,” she said excitedly in one widely-shared clip.

ANNETA G:  If there was any doubt before, now you know… this is a complete fiasco, a witch hunt, and a JOKE!

4 – MSNBC Host Offers Correction After Making False Ron DeSantis Claim
The Daily Caller reports: MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell gave a “postscript” to her show Wednesday and said she was “imprecise” after receiving criticism for making comments about Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

During a Friday interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, Mitchell asked why DeSantis didn’t want “slavery or the aftermath of slavery” to be taught in Florida schools. While DeSantis rejected an AP course in January that included components of Critical Race Theory and queer theory, he did not ban nor remove the study of black history or slavery from Florida’s curriculum.

Mitchell acknowledged the lie on Wednesday, but went on to further criticize the governor.

“In my interview last Friday with Vice President Harris, I was imprecise in summarizing Governor DeSantis’ position about teaching slavery in schools,” Mitchell said. “Governor DeSantis is not opposed to teaching the fact of slavery in schools, but he has opposed the teaching of an African American studies curriculum as well as the use of some authors and source materials that historians and teachers say makes it all but impossible for students to understand the broader historic and political context behind slavery and its aftermath in the years since.”

(Desantis press secretary Bryan Griffin released a statement banning NBC and MSNBC from interviews with DeSantis until Mitchell apologizes and their “track record improves.”)

ANNETA G: Mitchell just proved that Trump’s “fake news” label is TRUE!  And that was NOT an apology.

5 – Students raise big bucks for janitor forced to unretire over skyrocketing rent
Fox News reports: A Texas janitor who “unretired” over financial troubles will be given over $160,000 after high school students raised money for him on GoFundMe.

Mr. James, whose first name is not public, started working at Callisburg High School in North Texas in January. James was originally retired, but when his rent was reportedly raised by roughly $400, the 80-year-old couldn’t make ends meet and got back to work.

Three students began a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe after hearing the janitor’s story. They titled the fundraiser “Getting Mr. James out of this school”.

“Hey guys I’m having a fundraiser for our janitor who is struggling to pay his rent,” the fundraiser says. “He had to leave retirement to continue to pay his rent that was raised. Just a little will change his life!!”

While the initial goal was $10,000, donations poured in and reached the $160,000 mark in a week.

ANNETA G: Well, that is a day-brightener, for sure! God bless these students, and Mr. James!
