1 – Jeffrey Toobin exits CNN
Washington Examiner reports: CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin announced that he is departing CNN, marking the end of a career spanning nearly 20 years at the network.
Toobin indicated that Friday was his last day on air and encouraged his fans to be on the lookout for his upcoming book about the Oklahoma City bombing, slated for release in 2023.
“Friends, I’ve decided that, after 20 years, I’m leaving @cnn after my vacation. Was great to spend my last day on air with pals Wolf, Anderson and Don. Love all my former colleagues. Watch for my next book, about the Oklahoma City bombing, coming in 2023 from @simonandschuster,” he tweeted.

MY TAKE: Won’t read the book. BYE!
2 – Grammy winner Michelle Branch arrested in alleged domestic assault in Tennessee
NBC News reports: Singer and songwriter Michelle Branch was arrested Thursday in Tennessee for allegedly slapping her husband, Patrick Carney, the drummer for The Black Keys, authorities said.
According to an affidavit out of Davidson County, Branch, 39, was arrested on probable cause for domestic assault. Carney was listed as the victim, the affidavit said.
“Michelle stated that she and her husband are having marital issues and have been arguing,” [a police] affidavit said. “The argument began at another location and continued when they arrived home. The argument escalated and Michelle admitted to slapping Patrick in the facial area one or two times.”

MY TAKE: Branch previously told People that she was separating from Carney after three years, and that came after she posted a (now deleted) social media message claiming Carney cheated on her while she was at home with their baby. She said she was devastated and unmoored. Apparently she was also very, very angry. Not that I think she should’ve hit him, but… Let’s just say it’s too bad things ended that way.
in reality i just hope she’s taking care of herself rn

3 – Arizona starts building barriers with shipping containers to fill 3,000 feet of gaps in border wall
AZ Central reports: Arizona has started placing shipping containers along a 1,000 foot stretch of the border southwest of Yuma to fill a gap in the existing barrier.
Gov. Doug Ducey’s top advisers announced the effort Friday morning as work on the $6 million project near Gadsden had started. Plans call for stacking two shipping containers that are welded shut and topping them with razor wire, creating a 22-foot tall barrier, along the length of the gap in fencing, according to Ducey Deputy Chief of Staff Katie Ratlief.
In a briefing, Ducey’s general counsel Anni Foster acknowledged that the construction on federal land could prompt action from the Biden administration, such as an injunction to stop the work. But she and others said Ducey is taking action because the Biden administration won’t do more to secure the border.
“We are closing that gap and we’ll figure out the consequences as we move forward,” she said. “Bottom line is that the federal government has a duty to protect the states, that’s part of the contract. That’s part of the Constitution. They failed to do that. We have made every effort to work with them and try to resolve this problem, but the governor can no longer wait for the federal government to take action.”
MY TAKE: Applause, Applause. I mean, it’s still scalable with a ladder, but at least it’s SOMETHING!
