1 – Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Jessica Chastain, media blast America on Independence Day
NY Post reports: As millions of Americans celebrated the nation’s 246th birthday Monday, major media outlets and prominent liberals used the holiday to denigrate the US.
While contrarian put-downs of the land of the free are second nature to social media malcontents, even the likes of NPR and ESPN got in on the act this year — with the nation’s publicly funded broadcaster scrapping a reading of the Declaration of Independence and the self-proclaimed “Worldwide Leader in Sports” devoting prominent space on its website to a column bemoaning how America is “tearing itself apart.”
For 33 consecutive years, longtime NPR “Morning Edition” host Steve Inskeep celebrated July Fourth by reading out America’s founding document. That ritual came to an unceremonious end this year.
“Many of our debates on this July 4th turn on what equality means. What voting rules really give equal access to the ballot? Do abortion laws give a woman equal control of her body? At what point is a fetus entitled to equal rights?” Inskeep asked during the 11-minute segment.
Celebrities like Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain took to social media with their own jabs at the holiday.
“Happy ‘Independence’ Day from me and my reproductive rights,” Chastain wrote with a photo of herself flipping the bird with both hands.
Kim Kardashian and mom Kris Jenner went on Instagram to share a post that read: “4th of July has been canceled due to a shortage of Independence. Sincerely, Women.”

MY TAKE: I’m just sitting here enjoying the 4th of July, SCOTUS, and LIFE! I believe DML suggested a plane outward-bound for those who can’t handle the decision.
2 – Average car payment hits record $712/month as new, used car prices continue to climb
FOX Business reports: According to a report by Cox Automotive and Moody’s Analytics, the affordability of new vehicles continued to climb in May for the fourth month in a row, with monthly car payments averaging $712 per month.
“Unfortunately for the segment of the population that probably needs it the most, it’s getting more and more out of reach,” Ivan Drury, senior manager of insights at the car buying expert Edmunds, told NPR of the difficulty of buying a car.
Consumer Price Index data from May showed that over the previous 12 months, new car prices have gone up 12.6%, This and rising interest rates have made monthly payments higher than ever.
Used cars have increased even more with an increase of 16.1%.
🧵The average price of a new car is at its highest on record, topping $47,000. A household purchase that was once considered essential is now considered a luxury. https://t.co/L7VY53TLaC

MY TAKE: OUCH! I was going to say let’s go Brandon, but… Instead, I recommend thanking someone who voted for him. Hopefully they need a new car.
3 – Highland Park had storied 1980s movie history before July 4 parade shooting
NY Post reports: The tiny Chicago suburb where at least six people were fatally shot at a Fourth of July parade Monday was previously best known as a backdrop for some of most iconic movies of the 1980s.
From “Risky Business to “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” the sprawling homes and tree-lined streets of Highland Park, Ill., gave movie fans a sense of the affluence and comfort in which wealthy kids courted trouble outside the Windy City.
The suburb also was the place where teen misfits conjured up their ideal woman in “Weird Science” and heartthrob high-school senior Jake Ryan’s wild party took place in “Sixteen Candles.”
Late director John Hughes set most of his movies in and around Chicago, with Highland Park among his go-to locations.
Joel’s house in “Risky Business,” Gary’s house in “Weird Science,” Cameron’s house in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” Jake’s house in “Sixteen Candles”…all in Highland Park. It’s a place of movie magic and one of the 100 wealthiest cities in America. No place is safe. No place. pic.twitter.com/Hl6R1rLWmr

MY TAKE: What a tragic association with movies that brought many people joy. I’m not a fan of these films myself, but they are admittedly iconic. I’m praying for the families. Here’s the person of interest:

SPECIAL NOTICE: Are you having trouble sleeping? DML has some advice:
DML: Instead of taking toxic crap that doesn’t work, instead of handing money over to the drug companies, maybe the people who are in need of sleep should look to me for help? On July 2, I announced a huge promo to support the launch of a new product at DML CBD. It’s called MIRACLE ME CBD SLEEP with MELATONIN, I’ve been using it for months and it is remarkable. On July 2, I explained I had just 2,500 units available. Over the past two days customers purchased more than 1/2 of that inventory. This is significant because the promotion I announced lasts only until July 31 or when supply runs out. The promo is a great one! Whether you buy one bottle, three bottles, or twelve bottles, using the coupon code SLEEP at checkout will save you 60% off the retail price. Come August 1, MIRACLE ME CBD SLEEP will be a stock item that sells retail for $47.50 per bottle. But today you can save 60%. This means a single bottle that normally costs $47.50 can be purchased for less than $20. You have from now until July 31, or until the product runs out (which is likely to be the case). Do not wait. Go to DMLcbd.com/sleep and buy yourself a great way to sleep great again. Start sleeping like I do, sleep like a baby. Coupon Code: SLEEP
