1 – Newsom escalates his war with DeSantis over migrant flights: California governor claims Florida Republican is ‘desperate for attention’ and warns he will bring criminal charges for ‘taxpayer-funded’ stunt
Daily Mail reported: California Gov. Gavin Newsom is continuing his efforts to make his Florida counterpart Ron DeSantis public enemy No. 1, claiming the Republican governor is ‘small and pathetic.’

The highly critical words come after Gov. DeSantis transported more than a dozen migrants to Sacramento, claiming they wanted to get to California.

Newsom alleged that the move equated to ‘state-sanctioned kidnapping.’

‘We’re not backing away from getting the facts and holding those accountable if they broke the laws in the state of California,’ Newsom said during an interview with NBC’s Today show.

Newsom suggested on Wednesday that following an investigation, DeSantis might not be able to step foot in California without being arrested.

Katrina L: One of the most insincere people I’ve ever seen. His eyes hide things, his expressions seem fake. His words are rehearsed, planned, performed. He gives off a creepy vibe that I cannot get past. Ew.

2 – Actor Jay Johnston, known for ‘Bob’s Burgers’ character, arrested on Capitol riot charges
ABC News  reported: An actor known for his roles on the comedy television shows “Bob’s Burgers” and “Mr. Show with Bob and David” was arrested Wednesday on charges that he joined a mob of Donald Trump supporters in confronting police officers during the U.S. Capitol riot, court records show.

Jay Johnston, 54, of Los Angeles, was arrested there on charges including civil disorder, a felony. He is expected to make his initial court appearance in California on Wednesday. An attorney for Johnston didn’t immediately respond to a telephone call and text message seeking comment.

Video footage captured Johnston pushing against police and helping rioters who attacked officers guarding an entrance to the Capitol in a tunnel on the Lower West Terrace, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit. Johnston held a stolen police shield over his head and passed it to other rioters during the attack on Jan. 6, 2021, the affidavit says.

Johnston “was close to the entrance to the tunnel, turned back and signaled for other rioters to come towards the entrance,” the agent wrote.

Katrina L: Witch hunt.

3 – Eighty-one percent of the country is not happy, are you?
Washington Examiner  reported: A recent poll suggested that at least 81% are dissatisfied with the direction of the United States.

Government is the No. 1 problem for people, according to 19% of respondents, with the economy and immigration following close behind at 13% each.

Still, these are just estimates. So, we decided to head to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to ask everyday voters if they are happy with the direction the nation is headed.

While most said they were optimistic about America’s future, almost everyone listed a specific issue about why they were disappointed in the country.

Katrina L: I know none of us are “happy” with the way things are going, but what do you think of these responses? Tell us in the comments.

4 – Missouri Gov. Mike Parson signs bill banning transgender health care for minors, competition in school sports
Fox News  reported: Missouri Gov. Mike Parson on Wednesday signed a pair of bills into law banning transgender health care for minors and restricting athletes’ participation in sports to teams that match their biological sex.

In signing the bill, the Republican governor said Missouri was standing up “to the nonsense” and stands with women and girls who have “fought for an equal opportunity to succeed.”

Parson also said the bill was meant to “protect children from making life-altering decisions that they could come to regret in adulthood once they have physically and emotionally matured

Starting Aug. 28, Missouri health care providers won’t be able to prescribe sex change surgeries for teens and children. Most adults will still have access to transgender health care under the law, but it won’t be covered under Medicaid.

Katrina L: Fantastic!

5 – POLL RESULTS: What is the most useless college degree?

On Tuesday, we offered the following information:

Student debt has become a pressing issue due to the excessive borrowing and lack of personal fiscal responsibility. America’s younger generations lack a culture of responsible borrowing; they also shun away alternatives like vocational training or apprenticeships.

The prevalence of student loan debt and the difficulties associated with repayment have sparked doubts regarding the overall value and long-term benefits of pursuing a college education in the United States.

That in mind, we asked you: What do you believe is the most useless degree to pursue in college?

Below are the results of our poll.

Gender studies 75.9%

Philosophy 6.92%

Ethnic studies 4.62%

Theatre and dance 3.8%

Other degree (comment below) 2.58%

Photography 1.97%

Anthropology 1.56%

Psychology 1.22%
