1 – Rookie cop stabbed with machete near Times Square on New Year’s Eve
The New York Post reports: A rookie police officer on his first day on the job was stabbed with a machete on New Year’s Eve — just blocks from the heart of the celebrations in Times Square, according to police sources.
The officer — who graduated Friday and was assigned to a Staten Island precinct but was working the New Year’s Eve detail for the night — was stationed at West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue when the machete-wielding madman approached him and another officer around 9:30 p.m., NYPD sources told The Post.
The rookie cop was slashed in the head, prompting another cop to shoot the suspect, striking him in the shoulder, the sources said.
The suspect, a 19-year-old, was arrested and taken to Bellevue Hospital.
The stabbed officer was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover. The other officer was also struck with the weapon but not seriously injured.
“No backpacks or umbrellas in Time Square. They forgot to mention machetes,” a police source told The Post.

2 – School district that blocked transgender student from using boys bathroom scores major win
Fox News reports: A federal appeals court has ruled in favor of a Florida school district’s policy that separates school bathrooms by biological sex.
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals announced its 7-4 decision on Friday, ruling that the St. Johns County School Board did not discriminate against transgender students based on sex, or violate federal civil rights law by requiring transgender students to use gender-neutral bathrooms or bathrooms matching their biological sex.
The court’s decision was split down party lines, with seven justices appointed by Republican presidents siding with the school district and four justices appointed by Democratic presidents siding with Drew Adams, a biological female, who sued the district in 2017 after not being allowed to use the boys restroom.
Schools have private bathrooms for transgender kids.

3 – GOP sounds alarm over struggles with Gen Z voters
The Hill reports: Republicans are urging the party to do a better job engaging with young voters after the GOP saw Generation Z voters cast ballots by large margins for Democrats in the November midterms, making the difference in key congressional and gubernatorial races.
While the party has long struggled with attracting younger voters, the 2022 midterm election underscored the extent to which those struggles are a liability for it. Now, Republicans are calling on the party to step up its outreach, including by finding more Gen Z surrogates, engaging with young voters on social media platforms and speaking to issues those voters care about.
“When you ignore people’s bread-and-butter concerns and their more cultural concerns, you can’t expect to win their votes. And we’re having a series of close elections, and the Republicans are just throwing away an entire demographic, and it’s costing them elections,” said veteran GOP strategist Keith Naughton.
An analysis by Tufts University’s Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) using day-after estimates suggests that voter turnout among 18- to 29-year-olds in 2022 was at the second highest of the last 30 years for a midterm election. In House races alone, the demographic favored Democratic candidates to Republicans 63 percent to 35 percent, remaining mostly consistent since 2020 but a slight drop from 2018, when the margin was 67 percent to 32 percent.
Overall, more than a quarter of voters between the ages of 18 and 29 are estimated to have cast a ballot during the November midterms, according to an analysis of Edison Research’s National Election Poll Survey by CIRCLE, often playing a critical role in battleground races.

4 – Woke Fail: Disney Lost $123 Billion in Market Value in 2022 as Shares Drop 44 Percent — Worst Year Since 1974
Breitbart reports: The Walt Disney Co. saw $123 billion of its market value evaporate in 2022 as its stock dropped 44 percent amid profitability concerns, CEO musical chairs, and a suicidal embrace of woke identity politics.
Disney’s abysmal 2022 represents its worst year since 1974 when the company’s stock dropped 54 percent, according to Dow Jones Market Data. For 2022, Disney’s stock was the second-worst performing among the 30 companies that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average, after Salesforce.com, whose stock fell 48 percent.
Disney has experienced a non-stop parade of bad news in 2022. The company reported surprisingly weak profitability for its most recent quarter, sending its stock in a downward spiral while prompting the abrupt firing of CEO Bob Chapek and the return of former CEO Bob Iger.
Disney also picked an ill-advised fight with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over the state’s anti-grooming Parental Rights in Education Law. As a result, Walt Disney World lost its lucrative self-governing status in the Orlando area — a privilege the company has enjoyed for decades.

The Daily Mail reports: Americans are refusing to work weekends and are demanding pay raises en masse – emboldened by empowering self-help videos on TikTok and time spent at home during the pandemic.
The revelations, aired in a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, depict a rapidly changing corporate climate where staffers are more actively drawing a line between their work and personal lives.
With the pandemic serving as a catalyst, staffers at respected firms where extreme hours have been the norm are now demanding increased pay when asked to increase their workloads.
Accounts collected from white-collar workers from all age groups illustrate this waning ambition, as well as staffers’ reordered priorities over the past three years.
Some firms fed-up of staffers’ demands say they’ve begun outsourcing roles to India and Canada as a result, raising the specter of a jobs crisis should the long-predicted recession be a deep one.
