Former FBI Director James Comey took to Twitter on Friday night with messages for President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General William Barr.

Comey’s tweets come after Trump and Barr both independently questioned the legitimacy of the FBI’s investigation into collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

Trump accused federal investigators of “treason” in a Friday tweet, while Barr said in an interview with Fox News that he wondered if investigators had “abused their power” or “put their thumb on the scale” as they were probing the allegations.

Comey tweeted, “The AG should stop sliming his own Department. If there are bad facts, show us, or search for them professionally and then tell us what you found. An AG must act like the leader of the Department of Justice, an organization based on truth. Donald Trump has enough spokespeople.”

“The president claiming the FBI’s investigation was ‘TREASON’ reminds me that a Russian once said, ‘A lie told often enough becomes the truth.’” Comey wrote in a second tweet. “That shouldn’t happen in America. Who will stand up?”

The quote has been attributed to both Communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin and Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, according to the Daily Caller.
