More than a dozen Chinese military aircraft and four naval vessels were detected around Taiwan on Friday morning, defense officials said.

The incursions by Chinese warplanes have become almost a daily occurrence in recent months, but Friday’s show of aggression comes ahead of a visit by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

A high-altitude Chinese surveillance balloon was also spotted in the skies above Montana on Thursday, prompting some senators to call on Blinken to cancel his trip.

Speaking on condition of anonymity on Thursday, a senior official at the Pentagon told reporters that the U.S. has “very high confidence” the massive object in the sky is a Chinese high-altitude balloon flying over sensitive sites to collect information.

The balloon was seen flying over Montana, home to one of the nation’s three nuclear missile silo fields at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

However, Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, declared that the balloon is “currently traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground.”

Pentagon officials have reportedly decided not to shoot down the balloon, “due to the risk to safety and security of people on the ground from the possible debris field.”

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s military scrambled to activate aircraft, naval vessels, and land-based missile systems in response to China’s bold incursion around Taiwan.

The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense announced on Twitter:

14 PLA aircraft and 4 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected by 6 a.m.(UTC+8) today. R.O.C. Armed Forces have monitored the situation and tasked CAP aircraft, Navy vessels, and land-based missile systems to respond these activities.

5 of the detected aircraft(SU-30, J-16*2 and J-11*2)had crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s southwest ADIZ, flight paths as illustrated.

China’s daring taunts towards Taiwan are reportedly happening on nearly a daily basis.
