The office of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has responded after former Democrat rival Andrew Gillum was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and making false statements.

Gillum is a former mayor of Tallahassee, Florida, and was considered a “rising star Democrat” when he ran a heated race against DeSantis in 2018, in an effort to become governor of Florida.

An NBC News report on Wednesday stated, “Gillum had been under federal investigation for years, starting with his time as mayor of Tallahassee, when he accepted freebies from lobbyists and special interests.”

However, many liberal news outlets gushed over Gillum during his race against DeSantis, including the Miami Herald – and DeSantis’ office is now reminding them of it.

Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for DeSantis, blasted out a statement on Twitter on Wednesday.

“The fact that Florida media is a massive left-wing partisan activist movement actually harms Florida Dems. Because Florida media doesn’t vet or question politicians if they’re Democrats, even if they’re under active FBI investigations & embroiled in corruption scandals,” Pushaw wrote.

Then, in a scorching reminder, Pushaw shared a screenshot of Miami Herald’s previous endorsement of Gillum, and simply wrote, “Presented without comment. @MiamiHerald:”

In the Oct. 21, 2018 endorsement, the Miami Herald had written:

While DeSantis has not done much to put distance between himself and racist supporters, Gillum has an FBI investigation of Tallahassee City Hall casting a shadow on his campaign. DeSantis has overreached in calling Gillum corrupt, willfully ignoring that Gillum himself is not a target of the investigation.

After eight years of misplaced priorities, it’s time to swing the pendulum back, back to a Florida that works for more of us, that builds on its prosperity and that doesn’t squander its more precious resources, be they fiscal, environmental or human.

The Miami Herald recommends ANDREW GILLUM for Florida governor.

Pushaw also provided a chilling reminder of just how close the race was between Gillum and DeSantis.

“Thirty thousand votes… In a state of more than 21 million people. DeSantis won by 0.4%.  That’s what saved Florida. Your vote matters,” she wrote.

A press release by the Department of Justice on Wednesday provides the following details:

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – A federal grand jury has returned a twenty-one count indictment against Andrew Demetric Gillum, 42, and Sharon Janet Lettman-Hicks, 53, both of Tallahassee, Florida. The indictment was announced by Jason R. Coody, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

The Indictment alleges that between 2016 and 2019, defendants Gillum and Lettman-Hicks conspired to commit wire fraud, by unlawfully soliciting and obtaining funds from various entities and individuals through false and fraudulent promises and representations that the funds would be used for a legitimate purpose. The Indictment further alleges the defendants used third parties to divert a portion of those funds to a company owned by Lettman-Hicks, who then fraudulently provided the funds, disguised as payroll payments, to Gillum for his personal use. Both defendants are charged with 19 counts of wire fraud. Gillum is also charged with making false statements to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The initial appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at the United States Courthouse in Tallahassee in the Magistrate Judge’s Courtroom on the main floor.

The maximum terms of imprisonment for the offenses are as follows:

  • 5 years: Making False Statements
  • 20 years: Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud
  • 20 years: Wire Fraud

“The indictment marks a new low for Gillum, a married father of three who withdrew from public life as a political leader and a paid CNN commentator after a March 2020 sex scandal involving a suspected male overdose victim in a hotel in the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach,” NBC News also writes.

  1. Wow, the media, especially Miami Herald, suppressed the ongoing investigation during the 2018 governor’s race. Musk said the unions are controlling the Democrats. The same goes to the mainstream and social media. I wonder how anyone could support the Democrats.

  2. Ron DeSantis is blessing from god in my opinion. Had he not been the governor of Florida at the time when COVID hit and been the first Governor to take a stand against forced mask wearing, lockdowns and vaccine mandates, no other Republican Governor would have had the guts to take the leadership role that DeSantis assumed and the entire country would have folded to the whims of the CDC and the systemic democrat control of our federal government.
Trump let his ego get the best of him at that time and failed to see he was being played by career democrat bureaucrats in government. He should have never closed the country to international flights and should have never kicked off operation Warp Speed. Both actions led to loss of freedom of movement and freedom of choice to what you accept going into your own body

    • Trump is the only reason DeSantis won lmao. And everything DeSantis did regarding Covid were things Trump said to do lol.

People think DeSantis is some God when it came to Covid, but everyone forgets he shut down Florida.

  3. This dude n his democrats POS, Will soon start screaming RACISM!!! What a bunch of sorry ass democrats…. These fuking people all need to be in prison. Lock all democrats up, lmao, i sound like them… Fukem put them in jail.

  4. What is TRULY amazing is that this POS came within a hair’s breadth of defeating DeSantis…..and was the so-called main stream media’s choice for governor of Florida.

Now he’s chillin with male prostitutes on meth and under federal indictment for stealing campaign funds.
