A member of Facebook’s Oversight Board said the company’s misinformation policies need overhauling in an exclusive interview with the Washington Free Beacon.

“I regard the category of misinformation as being one where we need to be extremely cautious,” Michael McConnell told the Free Beacon. “There are legitimate differences of opinion on lots of matters, and we need to make sure we don’t squelch legitimate disagreement of historical, scientific, or political nature in the name of misinformation.”

The article goes on to state the following:

The Oversight Board faces increased scrutiny as it prepares to decide whether former president Donald Trump should be allowed back on Facebook. Facebook banned Trump from the platform on Jan. 7, following the Capitol riots. At the time, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the risks of allowing the president to continue using the platform were “simply too great.”

The report states that the Board is expected to rule on Trump’s account within the next two weeks.

McConnell, one of 20 Oversight Board members who determine whether content Facebook bans must stay up, would not comment specially on any upcoming cases. He admitted that Facebook’s rules are “vague and hard to understand” for users.

McConnell noted that Facebook has monopoly status, in that “it’s hard to communicate to a large audience without Facebook.”

The Free Beacon said McConnell is a former U.S. circuit judge who now teaches constitutional law at Stanford Law School.

Free Beacon executive editor Brent Scher tweeted, “We talked to a member of Facebook’s new “oversight board” as it weighs whether to reverse ban on Trump. He said it needs to be “extremely cautious” on “misinformation,” because of “legitimate differences of opinion on lots of matters.””

  1. You’d be absolutely amazed how less stressful, aggravated, and productive and happier you are WITHOUT facebook.. didn’t expect that benefit when I decided enough was enough…IG as well. My ability to do my own critical thinking is FAR better and I don’t have someone calling me a Trump yard multiple times a day. It’s absolutely refreshing

    • I left FB for the last time November 2020 and have never looked back. I think the world would be a better place without FB. Without FB people will need to call, email, write or actually visit friends. Social pariah, is what FB has become.

  2. I don’t care what the Facebook sniveling bitch Zuckerberg does about Trump but I know for sure Facebook and Google Twitter included should be shut down. Total control of thought and freedom of speech police bitches. Go to hell Zuckerberg

  3. Oh lord I hope trump don’t come back on fb or Twitter. Only thing it will do is bring the ratings up.plz say off mr trump Twitter/fb is boring without trump.

  4. Capital riot? The BLM protesters destroying cities are riots. The march “to” the Capital was a demonstration of the people willing to stand up for this country. Not tear it down. Trump was building this country up to the standard it was originally intended to be .Whether he’s back on Facebook or not, I really don’t think he’s giving up.

  5. Fake Book…Monopoly. yes. .censorship…yes….need Fake Book….no……just another day in MARXIST, BLMer, racist Joe Biden Paradise
Fake Book…Twitter….Google…I hope you get the HELL REGULATED OUT OF YOU

  6. Trump was banned for two reasons that are completely false. The first is that Trump maintains that there was fraud in the Nov 3 election. A subject that Mike Lindell has proven true, and that some states are currently investigating. Second that Trump insisted the attack on the Capital building, another lie that the left and the MSM has propagated and the truth will be revealed in time. So FB’s whole justification for removing Trump from FB is based on lies that really have already been revealed. FB is letting the left dictate to them who to block from FB.

  7. Just like My Space there will eventually be someone else better and brighter than Zuckerberg that will knock that ego maniac out of the way.

  8. I had been on Facebook for years without any problems whatsoever as soon as I voted for Donald Trump the first time I was ever banned from Facebook was when an antifa member threatened my life because I agreed with something someone had said about President Trump now mind you I had been voting Democrat my whole life I reported it to Facebook and Facebook gave me 30-day ban why I don’t know quite frankly I don’t care I see Facebook for what it is having set on both sides of this fence

  9. Trump is going to start his own social network. Face book is trying to back peddle because they see the writing on the wall. 💸💸💸💸💸👎
    Money talks sucker walks
