Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) was featured in TIME magazine this week as one of the “100 most influential people of 2022.”

WFLA.com writes: “DeSantis appears in the leaders category alongside the likes of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and podcaster Joe Rogan.”

DeSantis, 43, a Republican, has served as governor of Florida since January 2019, and is currently running for re-election. He served in the U.S. Navy from 2004-2010, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander, was an advisor to SEAL Team One and was deployed to Iraq in 2007.  DeSantis also served in U.S. Congress from 2013 through 2018.

DeSantis and his wife, Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, have three small children, Madison (5), Mason (4) and Mamie (2).

The article about DeSantis in the special TIME edition was written by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. It reads as follows:

During the pandemic, most people stayed home, and those who didn’t probably moved to Florida. Despite relentless criticism, Governor Ron DeSantis kept schools open, ensured Florida’s economy remained open for business, and allowed individuals to determine their own risk tolerance. His approach works. It’s one that has allowed Florida to emerge from the pandemic as a national model of personal freedom, economic growth, environmental protection, and education excellence. Florida continues to see record population growth, unemployment remains below the national average, the private sector is growing, and Florida remains a national leader in school choice. On top of that, DeSantis has demonstrated his environmental credentials with major investments to restore America’s Everglades, preserve and expand wildlife corridors, and protect Florida’s precious waterways.

While the Beltway crowd may not like his style, it’s his record that will become his legacy.
