Aides to Donald Trump had no idea a documentary filmmaker had recorded the former president on Jan. 6, 2021, until the House committee investigating that day subpoenaed the footage, reports said.

The existence of the footage — shot by UK documentarian Alex Holder — was first reported by Politico on Tuesday.

The article goes on to state the following:

The outlet said that Holder complied with the House committee request and handed over several months of footage of Trump, up to and including footage he took on Jan. 6.

The report also quotes the New York Times as saying that only a few close Trump aides knew about the project, while many top advisors were surprised when they learned of it.

Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was reportedly the one who organized the documentary film, intending for it to be a “legacy project” for Trump.

Holder released a statement on Tuesday, in response to being subpoenaed by the January 6 Committee:

Today, British filmmaker Alex Holder of AJH Films complied with a congressional subpoena to turn over footage captured during his work on a documentary series surrounding the final six weeks of President Trump’s re-election campaign as well as the never-before-seen footage of the January 6th attack at the U.S. Capitol. The series includes: unparalleled access and exclusive interviews with President Trump, Ivanka, Eric, and Don Jr, Jared Kushner, as well as Vice President Pence; in the White House, Mar-A-Lago, behind-the-scenes on the campaign trail, and before and after the events of January 6th.

“When we began this project in September 2020, we could have never predicted that our work would one day be subpoenaed by Congress,” said the series director Alex Holder. “As a British filmmaker, I had no agenda coming into this. We simply wanted to better understand who the Trumps were and what motivated them to hold onto power so desperately. We have dutifully handed over all the materials the Committee has asked for and we are fully cooperating.”

The series, which has been titled Unprecedented, was purchased last year by a major streaming service and is scheduled to be released in 3 parts this summer. Due to the sale of the footage, Holder did not previously have the legal authority to release the material or publicly discuss the project. Holder maintained full editorial control over the series and was not compensated in any way by the former President, his family or staff.

The Committee will conduct a deposition of Holder this Thursday. Holder is represented by Russell Smith of SmithDehn LLP.

Holder posted the following clip to his Twitter account on Thursday and wrote, “The Trumps did not have editorial control. Full stop.”

Some reporting on the Alex Holder Trump doc, per convos with 3 people this morning who worked on Trump 2020…

1-They recall a film crew coming to HQ at least once. They also remember it being odd because campaign’s legal team seemed surprised, as if it was an unvetted project.

2-The campaign’s lawyers were like, “Huh, what is this? What’s going on today?” Saw it as another side project from the family/Trump confidants.

3-“This was a family thing,” one of the campaign staffers told
@CBSNews.

News: Filmmaker Alex Holder has 11 hours of footage of interviews with members of the Trump family from Sept. 2020-Jan. 2021, @CBSNews has learned. 11 hours of Trump family, straight to camera, which he has edited down for his series. He is cooperating with the @January6thCmte.

Per a person close to Holder, he has many more hours (exact TBD) of other kinds of footage. But at the least, 11 hours of Trump family interview footage, which includes exchanges with Trump.

CBS News host Norah O’Donnell tweeted earlier on Thursday:

Documentarian Alex Holder tells the @CBSEveningNews the Trump family had “no editorial control” over his series “Unprecedented” and no one in the family has seen a “frame of the footage.”

Holder tells the @CBSEveningNews that he interviewed Donald Trump twice after the January 6th Capitol assault. He called President Trump’s answers to the January 6th riot “staggering” and he was “taken aback by it.”

  4. Let’s see what they cherry pick to fit their narratives. We seen that type of editing throughout his campaign and presidency. Trump wont be able rebuttal anything that is presented to their media show. Hope the film maker will go to the public if they do and tell it like it really is. Time for Trumps legal team to get copies so at least he can. They will promote it as the smoking gun.

Why are the republicans not doing anything about the shitty Bidums, they have more proof there than they do with Jan 6 Hoax. Its probably because there are too many RINO’s in the party , and they don’t know who to trust with the planning.

  9. What kind of corruption are the democrats hiding and what lengths will they go to so that Donald Trump cannot run for office again? They hate that he is an outsider, and he came in and turned their world upside down exposing all the crooked and criminal behavior. This is why they are desperate to get something on him. If they worked this hard for the American people instead of all the wasted investigations, this country would be the greatest it’s ever been. And to think those pathetic people live off of our tax dollars.
