A federal judge on Friday blocked Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s (R) executive order allowing students to opt out of school mask mandates.

U.S. District Judge Sheryl H. Lipman ruled in favor of two students and issued a temporary restraining order against the governor’s order in Shelby County.

The article goes on to state the following:

The two students who brought the court case against the executive order are ones who are more vulnerable to the coronavirus due to medical conditions.

“Plaintiffs have identified ways that they have been excluded from participating in school programs and activities, including from physical education classes, and socializing with their peers when within the school buildings and at lunch,” the judge said in the ruling.

The plaintiffs proved that they we excluded from some activities at school due to “their extreme medical vulnerabilities – in other words, due to their disabilities,” the judge said.

Lipman orders Shelby County Tennessee to enforce its school mask mandate in the meantime, without exception for the governor’s order.

“In plain English: there will be no mask opt out in Shelby County at least through September 17,” reporter Brandon Richard explained in a tweet. “Bottom line from this order: Students MUST wear masks at school in Shelby County. Parents CANNOT opt them out.”

The Tennessee Democratic Party Blasted out an email following the ruling that said: “A federal judge has BLOCKED
@GovBillLee’s ban on mask mandates in Shelby County in a huge win for Tennessee kids.”

“This could pave the way for the rest of the state to be free of Lee’s government overreach and allow mask mandates,” the tweet concluded.

  1. i would have to pull my kids out of school then and home school them since they couldn’t opt out of the fricking mask mandate ! that way they would not be damaged from breathing in their own CO2

  2. With no background knowledge of these 2 plaintiffs, I think they have medical problems that warrant more discretion on their part than dictating the mask requirements to the state of Tennessee.

  3. Kids can ban together and refuse to wear or just walk out of class. Suspending kids causes the school system to lose money and God forbid that. Besides systems receive extras Covid money for enforcing kids to wear the masks. Parents can take a stand also. Let the parent holly ring to maintain face mask remove their kids. Not the normal kids. Fight this. Kids get sick from wearing these useless things. Don’t be a sheeple and follow their rules.

  4. Utterly ridiculous. Let’s make all our kids sick by wearing useless masks and cater to 2 individuals instead. Fight back. These Judges are part of the problem.

  5. The TN Democratic Party claim Lee’s government overreached! THE OVERREACH IS THE FORCING OF STUDENTS TO WEAR A PETRI DISH ON THEIR FACES, NO MATTER MASKS DON’T WORK, OTHER THAN TO PRESENT A REAL RISK TO HEALTH. #ProgressiveSpeakIsRetarded
