Yesli Vega on Tuesday emerged from a crowded Republican primary contest in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District for a chance to challenge incumbent Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D).
Vega, a deputy in the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office and member of the county’s board of supervisors, is an “embodiment of the American dream,” according to her campaign website. Born to refugees from El Salvador, Vega is running on curtailing the Biden administration’s policies and returning to conservative values.
The article goes on to state the following:
“You and I know our conservative values of freedom, limited government, the rule of law, and a firm reliance on our Creator are the things that will turn our blessed republic around,” Vega says on her website. “I’ve been a conservative fighter at the local level, and will be honored to advocate for those bedrock principles on behalf of you and your family in Washington.”
Following her victory Tuesday night, Vega tweeted, “Thank You Virginia 07! I’m honored to be your Republican nominee and the first Hispanic conservative woman to win a Republican congressional primary in Virginia. This is a historic moment, tonight we celebrate, tomorrow we set our sights on taking back the 7th this November!”
