Former President Trump is the clear favorite to win the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination if he decides to mount another bid for the White House, according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill on Monday.

Nearly 6 in 10 Republican voters surveyed — 58 percent — say they would vote to put the former president back on the ballot in 2024, suggesting the party is ready and willing to give Trump another chance after his 2020 loss to President Biden.

The article goes on to state the following:

No other potential 2024 Republican candidate comes close to matching Trump. Former Vice President Mike Pence notches a distant second place with 13 percent support among GOP voters, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a rising star in the Republican Party, scored only 9 percent support in a primary field that includes Trump.

Tied for third place in the GOP primary line-up are former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), receiving only 3 percent support each.

  • 58% – Trump
  • 13% – Pence
  • 9% – DeSantis
  • 3% – Haley
  • 3% – Rubio

Trump has hinted, but has not publicly confirmed, whether or not he will actually run again for the Oval Office in 2024.

Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, said, “While defeated candidates rarely come back, Trump has a strong lead in the Republican primary especially among the most dedicated Republicans.”

Other findings from the survey include:

  • 48% have a positive view of Trump, compared to 46% who have a positive view of Biden
  • 51% of the survey’s participants say Trump was a better president than Biden, while 49% prefer Biden
  • 55% say Mike Pence was a better vice president than Kamala Harris
  • 63% say Mike Pompeo was a better Secretary of State than Antony Blinken
  • 48% approve of Biden’s job performance, while 50% disapprove

Full poll results will be posted online later this week, the report states.
