Former President Donald Trump made good on his promise on Friday, and endorsed the Republican candidate challenging Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who voted to convict him in the impeachment trial earlier this year.

Murkowski has criticized Trump multiple times, and even declared that she did not vote for him in the 2020 election.  But when she announced in early March that she would back Rep. Deb Haaland’s (D-N.M.) nomination to serve as interior secretary, that was the last straw for Trump.

On March 6, Trump released the following statement: “I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski. She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be – in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator. Her vote to advance radical left democrat Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior is yet another example of Murkowski not standing up for Alaska.”

Friday afternoon, Trump followed up on his promise, and endorsed Murkowski’s Republican challenger, Kelly Tshibaka.

Below is his statement, released through his Save America PAC:

Lisa Murkowski is bad for Alaska. Her vote to confirm Biden’s Interior Secretary was a vote to kill long sought for, and approved, ANWR, and Alaska jobs. Murkowski has got to go!

Kelly Tshibaka is the candidate who can beat Murkowski – and she will. Kelly is a fighter who stands for Alaska values and America First. She is MAGA all the way, pro-energy, strong on the Border, tough on Crime and totally supports our Military and our great Vets. Kelly is a powerful supporter of the Second Amendment and JOBS!

I look forward to campaigning in Alaska for Kelly Tshibaka. She has my Complete and Total Endorsement!

Tshibaka responded by tweeting, ” HUGE NEWS! Our campaign for US Senate was just ENDORSED by President Trump!”

Tshibaka tweeted on Monday, “I’m an America First Conservative. Pro-Life. Pro-2nd Amendment. And I am running for YOU. Check out our FIRST TV ad and Retweet!”

Tshibaka announced in late March that she was running to defeat Murkowski in the 2022 election. WATCH her campaign announcement video below:

Tshibaka, a Harvard-trained attorney, who spent 18 years in Washington in the Justice Department’s Inspector General’s Office, came from a blue-collar family background.

In a blog post on the Alaska Journal, Tshibaka writes, ” I was born and raised Alaskan. I am not a senator’s daughter. I watched my parents struggle to make their mortgage payments for years, much like how countless Alaskans are struggling today. After graduating from Steller Secondary School in Anchorage, I fought to be first in my family to pursue a college degree and attend law school. Then I went to work exposing fraud and abuse in government, improving outcomes and results, and saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. ”

“We must support and rejuvenate our small businesses and give our young people hope that they can find good jobs here at home, instead of leaving to find employment elsewhere. I will be a strong voice in opposition to illegal immigration and, as the proud descendant of Americans who fought in virtually every major American conflict from the Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War, I will be a tireless advocate for our military and our veterans. I will fight to preserve our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms and, as an unapologetically pro-life Alaska Conservative, I will be a voice for the unborn. And I’m for America first, always,” Tshibaka also wrote in the blog post.
