During a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee hearing on March 11, Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) referred to Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first openly transgender member of Congress, as 'Mister.' This led to an immediate and heated response from Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA), resulting in the adjournment of the session.
The White House under Trump demands all government officials to recognize only two genders, female and male.
