Alligators nearly become home invaders, attempting to breach Florida residence

In this DML Report…
a homeowner in Ave Maria, Florida, discovered two large alligators on their front porch, captured on a Ring doorbell camera. The footage, posted on Reddit by user byzvntine, shows one alligator standing on its hind legs, pressing its snout against the door, while the other crawls nearby, appearing to inspect the area. The alligators lingered for several minutes before leaving, failing to enter the home. No injuries or property damage were reported, and the homeowner did not engage with the animals.

The incident reflects Florida’s frequent alligator-human encounters, especially near water-rich areas like Ave Maria, where alligators are common. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) notes that such interactions are typical during alligator mating season, which begins in April, prompting increased activity as males seek mates. A neighbor, John, told WINK-TV that the same house had a similar alligator visit eight or nine months prior, suggesting the property’s proximity to ponds attracts reptiles. The FWC advises residents to avoid feeding alligators and to keep pets leashed near water to prevent conflicts.

The FWC was not reported to have responded to this specific incident, but their Nuisance Alligator Hotline (866-392-4286) is available for such cases. The video has circulated widely online, with posts on X and media outlets like TMZ highlighting the event. Local residents, accustomed to “Florida living,” often view such sightings as routine, though the boldness of the alligators’ approach raised eyebrows. The home is reportedly for sale, and no further alligator activity at the property has been documented since the incident.
