Popular Chocolate bars recalled due to choking hazard
In this DML Report…
Tony’s Chocolonely has recalled two of its chocolate bars nationwide—Dark Almond Sea Salt (180g) and Everything Bar (180g)—due to possible contamination with small stones, posing a choking risk. The recall, announced on April 1, 2025, affects specific lot codes: 162633, 162614, 163061, 4331, 4332, and 4333, with best-before dates of February 28 and April 2, 2026, for Dark Almond Sea Salt, and November 26-28, 2025, for Everything Bar. The company, known for its ethical sourcing from West African cocoa farms, acted after discovering the issue in its supply chain, urging consumers to return affected bars to stores like Walmart, Whole Foods, or Publix for a full refund.
The recall covers products sold across the U.S., with prices starting at $3 for Everything Bars and $3.50 for Dark Almond Sea Salt bars, and follows a similar stone-related recall of Tony’s Lil’ Bits in 2024. The Food Standards Agency and FDA back the move, noting that while the chance of stones in any single bar is low, the risk to consumer safety justifies pulling all impacted batches. Tony’s issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience, emphasizing their priority on customer safety.

This marks another hit for Tony’s Chocolonely, a Dutch brand founded in 2005 to combat child labor in cocoa production, which saw a $28 million revenue jump in 2023. The company insists the issue is isolated to the specified lots and is working with retailers to remove them from shelves. Customers who bought directly from Tony’s online store can report affected bars via the company website for refunds or replacements, while authorities monitor the recall to ensure compliance and public safety.
