Walmart releases recall warning for popular food product across 20 states

In this DML Report…
A voluntary recall has been issued for 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores across 20 states due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall, announced by the FDA, stems from routine testing by Taylor Farms that detected the bacteria in a single sample at a facility in Dallas, Texas. The affected products, bearing lot code TFMD328A17, were distributed between December 2 and December 26, 2024, to states including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, and Texas, among others.

Listeria monocytogenes poses serious health risks, particularly to older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, often following diarrhea or digestive issues. For pregnant women, the infection can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, or premature delivery. Consumers who purchased the recalled broccoli florets are urged to discard them or return them to Walmart for a full refund.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall as of the FDA’s latest update. Taylor Farms has ceased production and distribution of the affected lot, and the FDA’s investigation into the contamination’s source is ongoing. Consumers can contact Taylor Farms at 855-455-0098 for further information. The recall notice emphasizes checking freezers for the product, as it may still be in consumers’ possession despite the expiration date early January.
