Trump Takes Steps Against Chinese Investing in USA

President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum directing the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to restrict Chinese investments in strategic sectors.

The order aims to protect U.S. technology, infrastructure, and industries from foreign adversaries. It also involves considering new rules to prevent U.S. capital, technology, and knowledge from benefiting the PRC’s Military-Civil Fusion strategy, while aiming to facilitate investments from allies.

The memo highlights expediting all environmental reviews for any investment over $1B in the U.S. The "America First Investment Policy" memo also prioritizes attracting artificial and other emerging tech development here in the U.S. so China does not get out ahead.

On China: "The United States will use all necessary legal instruments, including the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), to restrict PRC-affiliated persons from investing in United States technology, critical infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, energy, raw materials, or other strategic sectors." Trump continued, "My Administration will protect United States farmland and real estate near sensitive facilities."
