San Diego County’s Regional Transportation Agency’s (SANDAG) latest transportation plan is designed to make driving so expensive that you succumb to public transportation. In addition to the current gas tax and registration fees, SANDAG’s plan adds three new half-cent sales tax increases, over 800 miles of San Diego County freeway lanes converted to toll lanes, and a mileage tax for every mile driven to pay for their $165 billion public mass transit plan.

SANDAG’s new plan refuses to build the road improvements promised in their last plan but will continue to tax us until 2048 to pay for them.SANDAG’s finance plan states, “Charging fees for the transportation infrastructure that people use—for example, charging users for each mile they drive on the highway—can change travel behavior.”

The writer notes that the money received from freeway dollars, gas tax dollars, and registration fees, which is intended for road improvements, will instead pay for costly public mass transit projects that less than 3% of the public uses.

The result: those who are championing for “social equity” by pushing the mass transportation are ultimately going to hurt the lower income earners the most.

“Government should embrace what most people are already choosing, and make it cleaner, safer, and more efficient.  The people have spoken, they choose freedom of movement and not broken promises or additional taxes,” Desmond wrote.

  1. Can they guarantee the military will get to a ship in time before it pulls out to sea. Missing ships movement is a serious offense. Getting to duty on time is a serious offense. Those sailors negotiating orders will avoid San Diego if they can.

  2. I didn’t vote for any of these idiots in office here is San Diego. They are such fools. They also keep building these dedicated bike lanes, that mess up parking that very few people use. I want to vote them out.

    • They don’t want cars period!! Global warming and carbon emissions!!!
Fact is: communists want a less mobile population; easier to control that way!!!
Therefore the bike lanes or HOOF it

      • It’s ridiculous!! What about the people who are less mobile and can’t bike ride? They don’t care about anyone but their biking friends. I hate them

  3. Whats next? Vouchers to buy gasoline. Have they not seen the crime surrounding public transportation? Do they have a plan to control crime? Do they think beyond their agenda of climate change to see the negatives of their ideas? White House, don’t tell the people, black is white and white is black. Their tunnel vision will be the death of us.

  4. It’s time to throw these clowns off of SANDAG or dissolve the board. This is a total abuse of the taxpayers of San Diego County. They do not have the power to change the purpose of the tax money approved by the ballot measure.
