Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly urged Western nations to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine, in order to stop the Russian bombardments from the air that are turning their cities into piles of rubble, and killing scores of civilians.
Zelensky addressed U.S. lawmakers in a Zoom call on Saturday, and pleaded for help to control the sky.
“We repeat every day: ‘Close the sky over Ukraine!'” Zelenskyy also said in a video statement posted to Twitter on Sunday.
However, many have warned that implementing a no-fly zone would lead to World War III, in which many more people would die.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg explained, “The only way to implement a no-fly zone is to send NATO fighter planes into Ukrainian airspace, and then impose that no-fly zone by shooting down Russian planes. We understand the desperation, but we also believe that if we did that, we would end up with something that could end in a full-fledged war in Europe.”
Sen. Marco Rubio said in an ABC News interview on Sunday, “If people understand what it means, it means World War III. It means starting World War III. It’s not some rule you pass that everybody has to oblige by. It’s the willingness to shoot down the aircrafts of the Russian Federation, which is basically the beginning of World War III.”

Multiple nations are helping Ukraine in other ways. According to a report on Monday, “an undisclosed airfield near the Ukrainian border has become a hub for shipping weapons,” with as many as 17 flights per day coming in to deliver weapons and supplies to the Ukrainians from several nations.
The United States and other NATO allies have so far sent 17,000 anti-tank missiles and 2,000 stinger anti-aircraft missiles to help Ukraine, the report states.

As a former fighter pilot, I know something about no-fly zones. Listen to the interview below where I explain why America should continue targeting Putin’s economy with crippling sanctions and providing aid to Ukraine, but we should not implement a no-fly zone right now. pic.twitter.com/QwxOJfGWi7
