An armed man locked himself in a hotel room of a luxury Honolulu resort Saturday night and Sunday morning, prompting a 10-hour long standoff with local authorities.
Shots were first fired around 6 p.m., and security made their way up to the suspect’s room at the Kahala Hotel & Resort when he allegedly fired at least one shot through the door. The lockdown ended several hours later when SWAT officers entered the room and found the suspect dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Thankfully, the security guard wasn’t standing in front of the door,” Capt. Brian Lynch told news outlets.
The man is reportedly a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy and stationed in Oahu. His family and his military commander tried to assist at the scene with the situation.
According to the article, no one was injured and hotel guests were asked to leave or wait in the ballroom during the incident.
Maggie Marcelli, a guest at the hotel told Hawaii News Now, “I am completely freaking out. There’s been so much horrible stuff that’s been going on, and I’m first of all just scared for whoever this person is. Obviously, there’s something wrong, but also just scared for everyone involved that’s having to go through this.”
