WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden turns 81 on Monday, a milestone likely to draw attention to his status as the oldest person to ever occupy the Oval Office, with opinion polls showing Americans worried he is too old for the post he is seeking reelection to.

Biden has addressed those who worry that he is too old for the rigors of the White House with humor and an attempt to convince voters that his age and experience over a half-century in public life is an asset in tackling America’s problems.

If re-elected, Biden would be 86 by the end of his second term in office. Republican Ronald Reagan, who had the prior record as oldest U.S. president, ended his second four-year term at age 77 in 1989.

When Biden is asked about his advancing age, he often simply responds, “Just watch me.”

Former President Donald Trump, who is 77 now, has not exhibited the same mental decline that Biden has shown, although if elected president in 2024, he would be 82 by the time his term ends.

ABC News points out that in September, three-quarters of Americans (74%) said Biden was too old to run for another term in a survey conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post.

Also in September, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 77% of respondents, including 65% of Democrats, said Biden is too old to be president, while just 39% said Biden was mentally sharp enough for the presidency.

RNC Research posted a video montage of Biden stammering through multiple speeches and announced, “Today is Joe Biden’s 81st birthday.”

The GOP “celebrated” Biden’s birthday by sharing a video as NBC News announces his devastating poll numbers.

“Today is Joe Biden’s 81st birthday, and Americans really don’t want four more years of him as president,” the GOP wrote.
