A Florida child is in critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest by a catfish, authorities said.

“A child was listed as a trauma alert after being stabbed in the chest by a catfish,” Pasco County Fire Rescue said in a statement on social media.

The article goes on to state the following:

The incident occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. Monday, officials said.

A Facebook post by the Pasco County Fire Rescue reads:

#ALERT| PENETRATING TRAUMA | NEW PORT RICHEY | A child was listed as a trauma alert after being stabbed in the chest by a catfish. While headed to the hospital with their mother, the child experienced difficulty breathing and pulled over on US-19 to call for help. Firefighters responded to the area and listed the child as a trauma alert after evaluating the catfish barb lodged approximately 1-1.5 inches in the child’s chest. The child was airlifted to St. Joes in Tampa for treatment.

  1. I’ve seen a lot of catfish but I have NEVER in my life seen one carrying a knife!
    How in the world is a catfish supposed to “stab” someone? I could see maybe getting cut by it’s fins or something like that but stabbed… I’d have to see it to believe it!

  2. those long things around the mouth of catfish that look like whiskers (Hence the name Catfish), well they ain’t whiskers. They are barbs with sharp tips that can easily puncture human skin
