China is warning Twitter CEO Elon Musk against sharing posts that promote the lab leak theory of the coronavirus, suggesting that such commentary could hurt Tesla’s relationship with the company’s second-largest market.
The cryptic warning came on a social media post by the state-run Global Times newspaper. The writer was reacting to Musk commenting on a tweet that mentioned the Department of Energy’s conclusion that COVID-19 originated at a lab in Wuhan, China.
The original tweet, from the account “Kanekoa The Great,” questioned whether Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was involved in the development of COVID-19 because he had funded “gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.”
Musk responded to the tweet, which included a video of Fauci denying that the NIH funded “gain-of-function research” at the Wuhan lab.
“He did it via a pass-through organization (EcoHealth),” Musk tweeted, referring to a non-profit group which the NIH awarded nearly $8 million in federal research grants to study bat coronaviruses in China.

Fox Business points out in their report that Tesla has a large electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Shanghai, and China is Tesla’s second-largest market for the vehicles.
Tuesday morning CNBC correspondent Eunice Yoon reported on the warning from the Chinese newspaper. Yoon wrote:
#China Communist Party paper warns @elonmusk against pushing #COVID19 lab leak theory. @globaltimesnews posts on social media “Elon Musk, are you breaking the pot of China?” (“Breaking the pot after eating” is Chinese “biting the hand that feeds you.”)
“Some may think @elonmusk made those remarks only to attack Fauci,” @globaltimesnews reads. But the posts he reposted “almost all link the origins of #Covid19 to China and the argument is repeatedly used by the US right wing and anti-China media hostile to China to frame #China.”

On Sunday, Yoon had shared a Wall Street Journal report, which announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has concluded that the Covid-19 virus most likely originated from the Wuhan lab.
“US Energy Department now joins FBI in saying #COVID19 likely spread via a mishap at a #China lab. Four other agencies and a national intelligence panel still judge it was likely the result of natural transmission while two are undecided,” Yoon wrote.
She then noted that China was slamming the report, tweeting, “#China pushed back on @ENERGY updated view on #COVID19 origins. Foreign Ministry cites @WHO “science-based and authoritative conclusion” and asserts “relevant sides should stop hyping up the #lab leak theory and stop smearing China and politicizing the origin tracing issue.”

He just can’t get his money out of China, too profitable.
It’s not like anyone would care if he built all in USA with tripple prices, there’s always grants to give so all taxpayers too poor can at least help the wealthier to get it.
Or how about disparaging AI and wanting to implant AI in 6 months?
Elon, while smart, doesn’t always cross his t-s.
Biden is calling China right now saying he had nothing to do with this.
Seems our government officials and Chinese government are one??!
C’mon Elon,
Move your manufacturing plant and tell China to “F” off. Then when they want to buy a Tesla, quadruple the price and if they don’t want to pay it, again tell them to “F” off and tell “see you on Mars”!!!
Amen K! Totally agree!
We have got to start manufacturing more in the US! And stop depending on a communist country! They are trying to take over our country by buying up land and building here! We need to stop allowing this and move away from China in many ways!
Even if Elon moved Tesla out of China, they would steal his designs and technology and produce a Tesla knock-off b
Well if the shoe fits, lace that muther up and wear it China.
