Former FBI Director James Comey took to Twitter Monday to speak out after the Justice Department inspector general report was released. “It was just good people trying to protect America,” Comey wrote in one tweet, and in another, he made an accusation against Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“The report concluded that investigators found no intentional misconduct or political bias surrounding efforts to seek a highly controversial Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in the early months of the Russia investigation — but also faulted the FBI over numerous “omissions” and “inaccuracies” in the application process,” Fox News reported.

After the report was released, Comey wrote, “So it was all lies. No treason. No spying on the campaign. No tapping Trumps wires. It was just good people trying to protect America.”

He was responding to his own OpEd in the Washington Post, in which he declared “the truth is finally out.”

From the OpEd:

“For two years, the president of the United States and his followers have loudly declared that the FBI acted unlawfully in conducting a counterintelligence investigation of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

“They repeatedly told the American people that the FBI had done all sorts of bad things, such as tapping Donald Trump’s wires during the campaign, opening an investigation without adequate cause, with the intent to damage Trump, and inserting secret informants into the Trump campaign.

“On Monday, we learned from a report by the Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, that the allegation of a criminal conspiracy was nonsense. There was no illegal wiretapping, there were no informants inserted into the campaign, there was no ‘spying’ on the Trump campaign.”

Next, Comey said “Fox & Friends” had canceled his scheduled appearance after the report was released.

“FYI: I offered to go on Fox & Friends to answer all questions,” Comey wrote. “I can’t change their viewers on Donald Trump but hoped to give them some actual facts about the FBI. They booked me for tomorrow at 8 am. They just cancelled [sic]. Must have read the report.”
