Gabby Petito’s body was cremated ahead of her funeral, which is scheduled for Sunday on Long Island.

The service for the 22-year-old Blue Point native will be held at Moloney’s Funeral Home in Holbrook. It will be open to the public from noon to 5 p.m., according to a statement from Richard Stafford, a lawyer for the Petito family.

The article goes on to state the following:

Her father, Joseph Petito, also shared the arrangements on Twitter, adding, “Thanks to all for your support and love,” with a photo of the blonde, blue-eye Gabby with stars across her face.

“Services for our sweet Gabby will be held at Moloney Funeral Home in Holbrook on Sunday September 26th from 12pm-5pm,” Joseph Petito wrote.

Petito’s body was found in Grand Teton National Park eight days after she was first reported missing by her mother.  Her death has been deemed a homicide.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to “the future Gabby Petito Foundation.”

Donations for the future foundation can be made to the Johnny Mac Foundation, a non-profit organization named for a Blue Point resident and firefighter who died in August 2009 of 9/11 related cancer, according to the foundation’s website.

Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, sits on that foundation’s board.

“Gabby is the daughter of longtime volunteer and current Johnny Mac Board Member Nichole Schmidt,” the Johnny Mac Foundation website says.

“Please use the following donation link to contribute to the future Gabby Petito Foundation on behalf of the Petito and Schmidt families. Donate Now,” the website tells visitors.

It also provides a link for those who want to donate funds directly to the family.

“Any funds donated using the following link will be used for family expenses. Donate Now,” the Johnny Mac Foundation website explains.

Petito was last seen in late August. She had been on a cross-country road trip with her fiancee, Brian Laundrie, 23. Laundrie returned to North Port, Florida, where his parents live, on Sept. 1 without Petito. He later disappeared from his parent’s home and his whereabouts are currently unknown.

Laundrie has been the subject of a massive manhunt across a Florida reserve. There is now an active FBI arrest warrant for him, issued late Thursday, on allegations of unauthorized use of a debit card.

  1. So sorry for your loss.
I do hope a Gabby Alert is put in please similar to the Amber alert named for Amber Hagerment here in Texas , but for adult children that fall outside of the established norm for reporting in to family on a trip or other circumstances.
Perhaps if this was in place it would have assist police in finding Brian Laundrie and brought him to justice sooner.
Perhaps if others know that their car and or credit cards will be monitored sooner it can prevent crimes such as this one.
No mother should every endure this type of pain.
