Former pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli was ordered to pay a $64.6 million fine and was banned from participating in the pharmaceutical industry “in any capacity” on Friday.

The ruling from U.S. District Judge Denise Cote came in an antitrust suit filed against Shkreli. In 2020, New York State Attorney General Letitia James filed a suit arguing he improperly engaged in monopoly control to increase the price of anti-malarial drug Daraprim.

The article goes on to state the following:

Shkreli was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2018 after being found guilty of defrauding investors. He gained notoriety when his company increased the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 per pill. His actions triggered bipartisan backlash and congressional action.

New York AG Letitia James tweeted Friday, “Martin Shkreli is a ‘Pharma Bro’ no more. A court found that the former Vyera Pharma CEO illegally monopolized the market of the life-saving drug Daraprim. The powerful don’t get to make their own rules, despite Shkreli thinking cash rules everything around him. Shkreli will now pay $64 million and will be banned from the pharmaceutical industry for life. New Yorkers can trust that my office will do everything possible to hold the powerful accountable, in addition to fighting to protect their health and their wallets.”

Editor of Law and Crime News, Adam Klasfeld tweeted, “Martin Shkreli must pay a $64.6 million fine and is BANNED FOR LIFE from ‘participating in the pharmaceutical industry in any capacity,’ a federal judge ruled. DEVELOPING story, @LawCrimeNews”
