Former child star Amanda Bynes was reportedly placed on a psychiatric hold after she was allegedly found wandering the streets of downtown Los Angeles naked early Sunday morning.
Bynes was spotted near downtown L.A. without any clothes on, a witness told TMZ. She allegedly waved down a car and told the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode, and then called 911 on herself, according to the report.
Bynes was brought to a local station, law enforcement sources told the outlet. A mental health team checked the former child star and placed her under a 5150 psychiatric hold, TMZ reported. She is currently in the hospital at the time of writing and will remain there for several days to receive treatment, another source close to Bynes told the outlet. A 5150 hold typically only extends for 72 hours, but in certain circumstances it can be drawn out.
According to TMZ, Bynes was not injured but was very lucky since she was found in a rough part of Los Angeles.
Mental wellness advocate Bassey Ikpi tweeted Monday, “The fact that Amanda Bynes flagged a car down, told them she was having a psychotic episode and called 911 herself actually gives me a lot of hope for her well-being. That’s a huge deal. When she’s ready, I hope she can be proud of herself for that.”
