A hacking group with potential ties to China has breached nine global organizations as part of an ongoing espionage effort particularly targeting the defense sector, findings made public Sunday revealed.

According to a report from cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks, the hackers targeted at least 370 organizations running potentially vulnerable Zoho servers in the U.S. alone, successfully compromising at least one, as part of a wider global campaign.

The article goes on to state the following:

The compromised groups operated in the defense, education, energy, healthcare and the technology sectors, with a potential focus on servers used by companies working with the Department of Defense.

None of the targeted organizations are identified in the Palo Alto Networks report. The attacks reportedly began in mid-September, and continued in October.

Rob Joyce, Director of Cybersecurity at the National Security Agency (NSA), tweeted, “Review this blog and check your networks for IOCs related to this ongoing malicious activity. Actionable threat sharing among public-private partners makes a difference against adversary intrusions. Good work by all involved!”

  1. Who would of thought, China? What does China need model US aircraft carriers for on a missile range in the desert? How many acts of war do you back down from before you get invaded? Oh wait, we have been being invaded for a long time now. How long before this goes nuclear?

  2. Why does it take months or even years before the breaches are found? Is cyber security something these businesses and agencies just have the attitude “it happens to others not me” ? Between China stealing our technology, creating products they sell back to us or use against us and all the hacking that’s gained them information and technology with impunity we’re not going to have to learn Spanish but Chinese. This administration and others before it have looked the other way allowing this to happen which is also condoning the behavior!
