A father is sparking conversation on Facebook after sharing a photo of his teenager’s cafeteria lunch.

Chris Vangellow, a dad of four, spoke with Fox News about the post which is garnering attention from parents in his upstate New York, community.

The article goes on to state the following:

Vangellow said all of his children attend Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District and his 16-year-old son has been sending him pictures of the lunches he has been served at school in recent months.

In a Facebook post last Wednesday, Vangellow shared the following photo and wrote, “I think the Parishville School Lunches might be a bit lacking a bit. even for a kid that isn’t 6’5 like Ash. If this was a game day I don’t think any of the team would be getting enough energy from something like this. When Auryn came through he didn’t even see any dry tasteless carrots available. He also chose to not have any of the plain rice as a side because that is not very appetizing either. They have been complaining that since the lunches are now free for everyone, the portions have dropped.”

“I got this photo today. It really is ridiculous. Don’t come at me with the “you get what you pay for” or “just send them with food” crap either. Yeah we can do that and and sometimes the kids do choose to bring something from home or will buy extra lunch to get more in them to get them through a day. The problem is that not all families can do that. We don’t live in a very rich area. Some kids may not get much or anything when at home and this is what they have to survive on. The rely on the meals that the school provides. This is what they get though. In my opinion, this is failing those kids.”

  1. The cooks dont even cook. I was blessed in our small town we had homemade everything down to our soups and desserts and as much as we wanted. Tekoa, WA.

  2. When my kid was in school 14 yrs ago. She would complain the line to buy food was so long she often times could not get anything before the break was over.

  3. How hard is it to make a large pot of soup, stew or even spaghetti? Those kids don’t even have enough on their trays to have a decent food fight. 😀

  4. Sorry, Dad, but you need to go back to making their lunches the night before.

We had no free lunches. My parents gave me 50 cents a day with which to buy lunch. I bought five pieces of bread with it, because that was the only thing that was filling.

  5. This country has lost its way. When you can’t even take care of the kids and make public schools a good place we’re screwed. Do better America. #Schoolchoice would be a great start.

  6. This is happening everywhere. The food is horrible and sometimes expired. Kids say they may eat 1 or 2 things and throw the rest away.

  7. My kids pack a lunch and wouldn’t even dare to stand in line for a drink. The schools (and this has been two different districts in two different states) give them barely any time to eat. Lucky if you get 10 minutes. If they stood in line it would be even less time. My 11 year old is lucky if he can finish 1/2 a sandwich. These schools are off the rails at all levels.

  8. I feel sorry for kids in public schools. That’s ridiculous. My 9 year old eats more than that. And like Sue, my kids also used to tell me there was no time to eat by the time they got through the line. They also made kids who brought their lunch go through the line because there were assigned seats and they wanted them to stay in order (this was elementary school) so bringing your own lunch didn’t even help. Once, they even had a fire drill during lunch and the kids didn’t get to eat at all. This is reminding me of all the reasons I began homeschooling my kids.

  9. My DIL packs my granddaughter’s lunch for the same reason, plus by the time they stand in line to wait for this [email protected] there’s no time to eat it! That’s a criminal! What are the school districts spending the money on?
You can bet they’re not feeding the illegals they’re housing in hotels meals like that when they get their room service! They’d be bitching like crazy!

  10. Inmates eat better , nice message from our FAKE administration I’m sure these parents are impressed at how THIER TAX DOLLARS are being used .

  11. It is all done by a HEAD COUNT as to how much money Schools get for their lunch program. Inmates get more food then school children. I once was in the Nebraska National Guard. You had to sign your name before chow, to make sure how much money they would get to purchase food.

    • I went on line and viewed the nasty NY school lunches no way these kids are getting food that will give them energy looks discussing !
