Three people are critically injured after a rowhome exploded Tuesday afternoon in a Baltimore neighborhood, officials say.

The blast happened at a home in the 1100 block of Bayard Street in the Pigtown neighborhood in Baltimore shortly after 2 p.m.

The Baltimore Fire Department said the collapse caused a gas line to rupture sparking a massive fire.

A 70-year-old man helped two women, who were inside the home at the time of the explosion, according to the Baltimore Fire Department.

All three victims were transported to the hospital and are “considered critical.”

Councilwoman Phylicia Porter stated, “The fire is now under control. BGE is on scene digging in the street to gain access to gas lines. An excavator has been requested and en route to assist. At the present time, possibly three families may need to be relocated. Housing and Red Cross are on scene assisting those families.”

Fox 45 Baltimore reporter Olivia Dance tweeted, “You can see damage to the surrounding buildings and cars from yesterdays explosion on Bayard Street.”

Dance posted a video to Twitter, stating, “I’m live from the scene on Bayard Street in Baltimore where yesterday a home exploded. The explosion left three people in critical condition. This street is still blocked off but police tell me it’s now open to foot traffic. The cause of the explosion is still unknown.”
